About Us
Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8th May 2000 vide Act No. 1248(2)XVII-V-I-I-19-2000 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. Under the University Act, 'Technical Education' includes programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other programmes and areas that the central Government may in consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) by notification in Gazette declare.

The University is affiliating in nature and its jurisdiction spans the entire state of U.P. in affiliating B.Tech., M.B.A., M.C.A., B.Arch., B. Pharma., B.H.M.C.T., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in 238 colleges/institutions imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level training in all government and private institutions located all over U.P. in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management and catering technology as well as M.B.A. and M.C.A. programmes.

U.P. being the largest state of India with an area of around two lacs forty thousand square kilometers and population of more than 165 million people makes UPTU as one of the largest technical universities not only in India but perhaps in Asia. Because of its gigantic size and number of colleges affiliated to it and geographic dispersion, it has been sub-divided into five zones with 45-50 colleges in each zone for the ease of management and facilitating inter-zonal comparison and possible internal competition to enhance quality of teaching-learning processes.

UPTU envisions to facilitate and nurture the quality of technical education and research in its own premises as well as all affiliating institutions. The total number of affiliated colleges was 49 in the year 2000 which has now gone up to 238 and the University is still growing. The task of the UPTU at the moment includes conducting the State level Entrance Examination U.P.-S.E.E. for admission to various programs affiliated to UPTU. Around 2,15,000 aspirants to UPTU take these entrance examination all over U.P. and in parts of Uttrakhand and Delhi. The University conducts central examinations each semester for all the affiliated colleges and institutions and declares results quickly using technology-enabled systems. At present around 150,000 students are enrolled in its various programmes. More than 50,000 students are admitted every year. Medium of instructions and examinations is English.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University was established in the year 2000 by the government of Uttar Pradesh. The University is a teaching cum affiliating University, imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level education and training in all government and private institutions spread out over the state of Uttar Pradesh in various fields like engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management and catering technology as well as MBA and MCA programme.

The Uttar Pradesh Technology University has been divided into five zones with 45-50 affiliated colleges in each zone. The University aims to provide and regulate the quality education in the state and produce skilled manpower for attaining helpful hands from the people in developing and nation building, connecting the common people of India with the outer world and challenge the changing technology with skills.

History
Established on 8th May, 2000, Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) was set up by the Government of Uttar Pradesh through UP Act Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. As per the University Act, UPTU propagates technical education that includes programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts and Crafts.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) is an affiliating University with its educational jurisdiction spread across the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. It is headquartered in IET Campus at Sitapur Road in Lucknow. UPTU Lucknow has a centre and regional office in Noida as well. It is also one of the largest technical universities in India. Owing to its size, number of colleges affiliated to it and geographic dispersion, it has been sub-divided into five zones with 45-50 colleges in each zone.

Educational Streams
Regional zones of Uttar Pradesh Technical University work in tandem to ensure quality teaching-learning processes. The University works to ensure uniform technical education and research in its own premises as well as affiliating institutions. It has affiliated more than 317 technical colleges and the numbers are still growing. The UPTU affiliated colleges conduct technical programs such as BTech, , BArch, B Pharma, BHMCT, MTech and PhD imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level education. These institutions, which include both the government and private, are located all over the state. Professional education like Business Management is also offered by many of these colleges affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University.

The University conducts state level Entrance Examination, UP-SEE, for admission into various programmes affiliated to it. Every year thousands of aspiring students take this entrance examination all over the state. The University conducts central examinations each semester for all the affiliated colleges and institutions and declares results using technology-enabled systems. Medium of instruction and examination is English.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University counselling dates undecided

KANPUR: The Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) will hold the counselling for selected students tentatively in the first week of July. Though the exact date of counselling is yet to be declared, the authorities of UPTU want to hold it after the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) counselling comes to an end. The schedule of counselling of AIEEE is yet to be declared.

Nearly 1.29 lakh students, who cleared the State Entrance Exam (SEE) conducted by UPTU, would take part in the counselling. It will be conducted at 22 centres of 14 cities in the state.

Vice-Chancellor, UPTU, Prof Kripa Shanker said, the counselling would be held for selected students in the first week of July after counselling for AIEEE comes to an end. He said this arrangement would be made to avoid clash between the two counselling schedules. Also, the students who have cleared both the exams, will be able to take part in both the counselling sessions comfortably, he added.

The maximum number of students prefer taking part in AIEEE counselling. It is only after this that they opt for UPTU counselling. The UPTU administration was also of the opinion that the students take part in both the counselling as they lock seats in the colleges affiliated to AIEEE, which leads to vacant seats in UPTU affiliated colleges.

After the AIEEE counselling concludes, the left-over students, who do not get seats in the colleges registered with AIEEE, take admission in the colleges affliated to UPTU.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University results: Kanpur boy first in OBC category

KANPUR: Several students of the city came out with flying colours after the results of the State Entrance Exam-2012 conducted by Uttar Pradesh Technical University, were declared on Sunday evening.

Aman Tripathi, a resident of P Road secured 230th rank. Amit Kumar Gupta secured first position in OBC category and 7th rank in general category in the fashion designing course. Aditya Nigam, a resident of Acharya Nagar was also successful.

As many as 17 students of BNSD Shiksha Niketan have emerged successful. Abhay Srivasatava got the 45th rank in the merit list and topped the city. Abhinav Rai and Neha Dixit have managed to secure 245th and 383rd rank. As many as 19,000 students participated in the entrance examination at 28 centres.

City students bag top honours in SEE; more than 1.30L selected

LUCKNOW: City students Raghuvansh Raj Saxena and Shilpa Roy have topped the State Entrance Examination (SEE) for BTech and BArch respectively. SEE results were declared on Sunday. The exam was conducted by Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) on April 22.

SEE coordinator Prof VK Singh said 1,60,561 candidates had registered for the exam, out of whom, 1,29,924 have qualified. There are 1.33 lakh BTech seats in the engineering colleges affiliated to GBTU. This year, 81% candidates have cleared the exam, said Prof Singh, adding that all students securing 25% of the total marks from general and other backward class (OBC) and 20% for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories have qualified. Last year, about 48% candidates had qualified SEE for BTech.

On Sunday, GBTU also declared the results of BArch, BPharma, BHMCT, and BFAD. In BArch, nearly 13,817 candidates took the exam and 9,582 have qualified against 1,540 seats. In BPharma, 7,828 candidates qualified against 10,063 registered. The total intake in BPharma is 8,385. As many as 1,678 candidates passed the SEE for BHMCT against total 2,915 registered. There are 1,230 seats in BHMCT. Similarly 1,315 candidate qualified SEE for BFAD out of 2,378 who took the exam. The total intake for BFAD is 120.

GBTU vice-chancellor Prof Kripa Shanker and Registrar US Tomer told that from this year, management quota from colleges has been withdrawn and only 5% NRI quota will be applicable. In engineering, 20% seats will be filled through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), 5% through NRI, and remaining from SEE.

However, the university is mulling to allow direct admissions in colleges for seats left vacant after all rounds of counselling with a condition that a student should have minimum 60% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics in class XII. We have sent the proposal to the government, said Tomer.

Another change likely to take place during admissions is that counselling for MBA, MCA and BTech will be held on different days. The counselling is expected to begin from July 8. Till previous years, the counselling for all courses was held together.

Jhansi boy, Kanpur girl top Gautam Buddh Technical University entrance exam

LUCKNOW: Piyush Jain from Jhansi and Harpreet Singh from Kanpur topped the state entrance examination (SEE) 2012 for Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Application respectively.

While in the girls category, Preety Singh from Agra, and Snehalata Singh from Ghazipur emerged as toppers in MBA and MCA respectively. The results for the online entrance examination were declared by Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) on Thursday.

Expressing happiness, the toppers unanimously praised the online mode of SEE and attributed it to their success. Piyush who finished his exam half an hour before the scheduled time said, The online mode helped me finish exam early. Clicking on computer is easier than circling in the OMR sheet which at least wastes 15 minutes of time. Piyush who has finished his engineering from Ghaziabad now wants to specialise in finance. Finance is the most sought after specialisation in MBA. There are better job prospects and a handsome salary in this field, said Piyush.

With similar views, Ankit Gupta, who finished Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) from Ghaziabad said, It was comfortable appearing for the online exam than the offline one. The best part was that there was no disturbance in the time limit given to us. In offline mode, there are chances of time wastage. However, Ankit wants to go into marketing, as he likes interacting with people from different fields.

MBA girls topper Preety Singh for whom SEE result was a surprise said, The online mode is far better than the offline. It gave us flexibility of date and time, which is absent in offline exam. Also, unlike the pen and paper mode, one can go back to any question any number of times in online. For her, MBA in finance or human resource is an ideal thing as it involves only sedentary work.

Endorsing the same views, Ritu Singh who wants to specialise in HR said, I think the credit for success goes to the online exam. It was time saving and easy off to answer.

Sarita said, At a time when the world is going hi-tech, appearing in online exams is the best thing. It helps in improving speed and helps you to be confident, said Sarita. The male topper for MCA was Harpreet Singh and Sudhanshu Chaubey stood at second position.

GBTU conducted SEE 2012 on April 21 and 28. For the first time, the online exam for MBA, MCA was held at 36 examination centres in 16 cities. As per SEE coordinator, Prof VK Singh, in MBA, a total of 14,067 candidates had registered, out of which 10,919 appeared and 10,663 qualified. The total seats for MBA are 32,228. In MCA; 8,300 candidates registered, 7,177 appeared for the test and 5,552 qualified. The university has a total of 8,751 seats. For MBA, in the OBC category, a total of 3,338 candidates took the exam and 3,227 qualified, while as many as 1452 candidates belonging to SC category qualified the exam against 1,497.

In MCA, a total of 1,975 candidates belonging to OBC category qualified the exam and 446 candidates from SC category were successful. SEE deputy coordinator Manish Gaur and GBTU registrar US Tomer expressed happiness on the success of the online test.

UP technical varsity split into two

The Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) is no more. The state government has bifurcated it and formed Maha Maya Technical University for engineering and management colleges in western UP and Gautam Buddha Technical University for the rest of the state. UPTU Noida Extension Centre at Sector 62 will be the office of the new Maha Maya Technical University, said Kripa Shanker, Vice-Chancellor, UPTU. It will start functioning from July. The state government has issued the notification and the new university has come into being from May 1. Recruitment of Registrar and other staff are being done.

Shanker will serve as the vice-chancellor of both UPTU and Maha Maya Technical University till a new V.C. is appointed.
UPTU has over 500 colleges. More than 300 were in western U.P. The state government felt handling a large number of colleges by a single university was not advisable as it was adding additional burden to staff. Therefore the decision to bifurcate UPTU was taken in February, Shanker said.Besides, the Gautam Budha Technical University extension centre will also function from the Noida premises, he said.All ongoing projects of UPTU will be carried forward. These include virtual classrooms, digital labs, digital libraries, placement centers and other projects, he said.

PREPARATIONS ARE in full swing at the Institute OF Engineering and Rural Technology (IERT), Allahabad for the on-campus on-line counselling of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) scheduled to start from July 10. The institute officials are in the final phase of completing the necessary installations of equipment including the computer systems and the requisite software. The on-campus on-line counselling will be conducted at 9 centres across the State, including IERT. The students appearing for SEE-06 from different centres of UPTU will have to report to the counselling centres designated for the examination centres.

Expecting a large number of candidates during the 18-day counselling programme, the IERT officials have made some temporary provisions for the convenience of the candidates. Prof SC Rohatgi will be the chief counselling in-charge, Neeraj Shukla and Mahesh Mishra will be assistant counselling in-charge.We have 250 terminals for the counselling out of which 200 are available for the candidates for entering their options and the remaining 50 for pre-option works. Around 33 faculty members, 25 class-III employees and 25 class-IV employees will be involved in the counselling, said Prof Rohatgi.

A 2mbps leased line, server and software for protected network for the entire counselling has been provided by National Informatics Centre and the NIC authorities will very soon conduct a training session for the IERT staff and employees for the D-day. Shukla said: For the counselling we will be having one reporting counter, four verification counters, four registration counters and four security and counselling fee depositing counters besides two part-fee depositing counters and one allotment letter issuing counter for the convenience of the candidates.

The candidates need to bring all original certificates, one set of attested photocopy of each certificate, four copies of their photographs identical to the one pasted on the application form, admit card, rank letter and a crossed demand draft of Rs. 5000 as initial deposit and an account payee demand draft of Rs. 500 as counselling fees drawn in favour of Finance Officer, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, payable at Lucknow, said Prof Rohatgi.

He further said that the candidates after submitting the fee would have to proceed to the document verification counters, thereafter the candidates would be required to exercise their final choices of seats on-line. The choices submitted on day one will be processed centrally and the list of candidates who are allotted an institution along with branch for admission will be displayed on the website on day two. The student will have to deposit an account payee bank draft as part of college-institute fee Rs. 15000 for general and OBC candidates and Rs. 7500 for SC and ST candidates at the counselling centre, added Prof Rohatgi.

Re-evaluation introduced in UPTU but with riders

THE UTTAR Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) has decided to introduce re-evaluation in cases where examinees were not satisfied with the marks given to them. According to the Vice-Chancellor Durg Singh Chauhan, only those students would be entitled to a re-evaluation who got less than 30 marks in a subject. Besides, in order to ensure quality education, the university has proposed to appoint retired teachers as observers.These observers would have the rights to inspect colleges assigned to them to ascertain that that the education being imparted to students was according to university norms. They would inspect attendance registers, project work of students and make an overall assessment of the academic environment of colleges and would submit a detailed monthly report to the University.

Professor Chauhan told that the university has collected Rs. 100 from each student to create a Student Provident Fund.
The fund has been created with the amount received from over one lakh students of engineering colleges affiliated to the UPTU. On the same pattern, a teachers fund would be created by deducting Rs. 150 to 250 from the remuneration given to teachers for evaluation work.He further said that university entrance examinations would begin from May 15 and the results would be announced by July 5. Soon after the results were announced, counseling sessions would begin. This time only students who received at least 50 per cent marks would be called for counseling. He said seats in almost all disciplines had been increased to accommodate maximum students.

He said special arrangements had been made to check pilferage of question papers. Question papers would be sent to examination centers just 45 minutes before the start of the examination and would be opened in the presence of the observers.

Technical Varsity Seeks Balanced Growth

Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) has urged the state government to take proactive steps to encourage setting up of more colleges in eastern UP, especially in the private sector.
Currently, most of the institutions of higher education are skewed in favour of western UP. "Almost 50 per cent of the enrolments to UPTU-affiliated institutions are being done in Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Meerut," UPTU vice chancellor Prem Vrat told Business Standard.

The government should give incentives to set up colleges in backward and un-served areas of the state, he added. At present, 434 colleges with 250,000 students on roll are affiliated to UPTU. Three years ago, this figure was 236 and 112,000 respectively.

He informed that four new government colleges were coming up in eastern UP, including Azamgarh.

Almost 20 per cent of students are opting for IT and electronics, while there is a declining interest towards core technologies, such as mechanical and civil, which is not a very healthy trend, Vrat added. However, he stressed that the quantity of colleges should not be increased at the cost of quality.

UPTU is following a seven-grade system to rank the affiliated colleges on several parameters and the information is regularly updated on the official website, the VC said.

UPTU was established by the state government in May 2000. It affiliates institutions imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level training in all government and private institutions all over UP in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management, and IT.
