The Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) is a technical institute located in Gandipet, Hyderabad, India. It is at a distance of about 15 km from the city center. The college is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. The college is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation and is ISO 9001:2000 certified. CBIT is ranked among Top 20 prestigious private engineering colleges in India by Outlook.
The college was established in the year 1979. The institute (affiliated to Osmania University), began its journey with 3 Under-graduate programmes with an intake of 200 students grew to 8 Under-graduate and 6 Post-graduate courses with a total intake of approximately 866 students by the year 2004. Now it stands as a premier institute of technology of both national and international repute.
The college owes its success to the vision and indefatigable efforts of its Management headed by late Justice Sri K.MadhavaReddy, noted Jurist, and to the devotion and sense of dedication of its teaching and non-teaching staff. Further, it was the dynamic leadership and administrative acumen of Dr.V.Malakonda Reddy, Founder Principal and Secretary former Chairman which have helped CBIT to attain a pre-eminent position among the institutions of Engineering and Technology. The Institute grew from strength to strength later headed by Padmabhushan Dr.P.Siva Reddy, ophthalmologist and Honorary consultant to the President of India.
In 2007, a distinguished director and alumnus of CBIT who is famous for his creative movies shot an entire movie named Happy Days (2007 film) based on the life in CBIT and the movie went on to make a place among the top chartbusters in the local film industry of south India.
The alumni association was first formed in 1984 when the graduating class decided to establish a system to continue to be in touch with their friends. They decided to call this organization, Chaitanya Smruti, the guiding light for all CBIT graduates. From 1984, as CBIT graduates started looking at higher studies and newer careers in different parts of the world, Chaitanya Smruti continued to be the node through which alumni could get in touch with their batch-mates and to get in sync with the developments of the college. Into the 1990's, when the software boom took place and introduced globalization in a big way, the need for a focal point for all graduates to get in touch with each other became extremely critical and Chaitanya Smruti played an important role in this unification. By organizing regular reunions when past students paid a visit to their alma mater and met their friends, Chaitanya Smruti helped retain the bond between the alumni and the college.
The Association has an international chapter at the USA. CBIT USA
The association organizes the Reunion and the immensely popular cultural fest 'CARPE DIEM' for every two years.

Tech colleges stunned by sudden AICTE raidsThe surprise raids carried out by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is sending shock waves through the managements of engineering colleges across the state.
As many as 106 colleges in the state were issued notices for varied offences, ranging from violating land rules to collecting capitation fee, donations and cheating students.
Prominent engineering colleges like Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT), Sri Nidhi, Gurunanak, Bharat, Sultan-ul-Uloom, Bharat, Aurora and so on figure in the list of colleges which were issued notices by AICTE.
The AICTE has summoned the managements of 106 engineering colleges to its headquarters in New Delhi on April 21 for their explanations before the hearing committee on the violations detected during the raids.
While the AICTE has issued notices to some colleges based on the deficiencies detected during its surprise raids, some colleges got notices based on the CBI raids that were conducted following the arrest of then-AICTE member secretary, Mr Narayan Rao, in July 2009 while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to grant approval for an engineering college.
The AICTE has threatened to issue a closure notice to those colleges which fail to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Sources in AICTE maintained that the CBIT and MGIT, which figure in the list of top-10 colleges in the state, and both owned by the same management, violated land norms.
It was learnt that the management registered the land in Gandipet in the name of one society, secured approval and later transferred the colleges to another society, but ignored the land transfer, which is considered a major offence as per AICTE norms.
Additionally, some parents and students lodged specific complaints against the management with the AICTE, for collecting capitation fee and donations.
Also, the Sultan-Ul-Uloom Educational Society, which runs Muffakham Jah Engineering College in Banjara Hills, has not produced valid land documents till now, despite being in operation for several years.
2 students dead as sportsbike crashesEven before the memories of Ayazuddin, who met with an accident while riding his sports bike, fade out of public memory, yet another incident, in which two B. Tech students lost their lives when their motorcycle crashed into a roadside pole, occurred near Gandipet on Wednesday. Jampala Abhinay and Gunti Abhiram, both 19, and second year civil engineering students at the CBIT, died when the new Honda CBR 250 they were riding, crashed into the pole, near their college. They were returning to the hostel after a ride on the Outer Ring Road.
Students and staff rushed to the place following an alert by a Tata Sumo driver who was passing by the place. Prof. Sharma, head of civil engineering department, said Abhinay got the bike a few weeks ago and might have taken Abhiram for a ride. We cant fault the parents but they should realize the heartbreak they have to go through due to such instances he said. We tried to shift them to nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. Four to five autos refused to take them. Finally we took them to a private hospital in Narsingi, but the hospital staff refused to admit them and told us to go to Premier Hospital at Nanal Nagar. The doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies were later shifted to the Osmania General Hospital for post mortem.
