Mission, Motto and Goal

Lord Mahavira said 2600 years ago 'Nanassa Saram Ayaro' i.e. "Right conduct is the essence of knowledge." This spiritual voice is the motto of the University. Every programme and every activity is directed towards the realisation of this motto. The goal of JVBU has been clearly spelt out in the preamble of JVBU's constitution which reads:

"The Jain Vishva Bharati University is an endeavour in the direction of putting into practice and to promote and propagate the high ideals of Anekanta (non-absolutist outlook), Ahimsa (Non-violence), Tolerance and Peaceful Co-existence for the weal of mankind"

"We the members of Jain Vishva Bharati, therefore, resolve to constitute and establish the said University of Advanced Studies, Research and Training in Jainology in the context of comparative studies in Jainology, World Religions, Ahimsa (Non-violence) and World Peace."

This University, combines the oretical research with practical research, in other words, it combines gyan (knowledge) and dhyan (meditation). The University is however free from any religious affiliations. It draws its spiritual strength and direction from Acharya Mahaprajna, who is above any sectarian bias.

"Nanassa Saram Ayaro"- His Holiness Lord Mahaverra said "Right conduct is the essence of knowledge". This spiritual voice is the motto of the Institute . Every program and every activity is directed towards the realization of this motto. The goal of the JVBI has been clearly spelt out in the preamble of JVBI'S constitution (Memorandum and article of Association) which read as:

"The Jain Vishva Bharati Institute" is an endeavor in the direction of putting into practice, promote and propagate the high ideals of Anekant (non-absolutist outlook), Ahimsa(Non-violence),Tolerance and peaceful existence for the weal of mankind".

"We the members of Jain Vishva Bharati, therefore resolve to constitute and establish the said institute of advanced studies , Research and Training in Jainology in the context of comparative studies in Jainology , World religions, Ahimsa and world peace".

The mission is to integrate modern science with ancient wisdom of great spiritual practitioners and visionary seers. The Institution seeks to intervene moral & spiritual norms and values with materialistic and economic fibers of mankind to foster and develop universal human relationship for the peaceful CO-existence of individuals, groups, communities, sect, races, religion and nation. This mission is to be achieved by spreading the Jain doctrine of "Anekant" (non-absolutist and relativistic outlook towards life), Ahimsa (Non-violence) , Tolerance, peaceful CO-existence, practicing small vows of "Anuvrat" (a code of human conduct)and achieving the synthesis of the body, mind and soul "Preksha Dhyan"(meditation for the purification of the soul by perceiving one's self).

The first and foremost task of this institute is to develop an international center of Jainological studies and Research. It aims at imparting higher education and preparing scholar in the little explored treasure of knowledge and conducting research in different sciences hidden in Jain Agams, and to bring them in light by translating them from prakrit to Hindi , English and other major language of the world. These are challenging jobs for which the institute invites students and teachers interested in Jainology from anywhere in the world.

To make this knowledge useful and relevant to the society, integrated value based courses in professional subjects like Management, social work, and computer science are being planned to introduce. The goal is to produce ideal managers/executives, ideal teachers and ideal social workers with a difference, who will possess a scientific-cum-spiritual personality to work for a Non-violent world order.
