HC seeks list of babus who let Ramgarh die

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has directed the state government to initiate a probe against those officials who have allotted illegally the land in the catchment area of Ramgarh Dam. The court also ordered the government to be fair in removing the encroachments giving no consideration to who did the encroachment.

A single bench of Justice Manish Bhandari gave the order while hearing the case of Ramgarh Dam in which flow of water was blocked due to encroachments in the catchment area. The court had taken a suo motu cognisance of the issue recently and asked state government to remove the encroachments in the catchment. Also the court had directed the government to produce a status report of the removed encroachments on December 20.

The government submitted the status report in the case in the High Court. Hearing the case, Justice Bhandari ordered the government to rehabilitate the dislocated people. But, the government was directed not to be sympathetic with the encroachers at all.

The bench also ordered that officials who allotted the catchment area belonging to government should be identified. A probe will be done and the charges of contempt of court will be slapped against them, if they are found guilty. Also, the court asked government not to allot land in catchment area of any water body situated in any part of the state.

On the other hand, the government informed the court about the drive on encroachments when it tabled the status report. The government said that 695 encroachments were identified on 33 locations. Out of which 123 encroachments were removed and legal cases were registered against 297 persons. On the basis of Forest Act, a decision will be taken on 249 encroachments.

The district collector Naveen Mahajan, under whom the drive was completed was present in the hearing also. He informed the court that 480 references of land allotments had come up in the catchment area out of which 327 were sent to the revenue board for a decision. The court took note of these references and has issued a direction to form a committee of advocates. The committee will coordinate with the revenue board to decide on the references.

The monitoring committee, set up in Ramgarh Dam case, also tabled its report on the enforcement drive. Members of the committee, A K Bhargav and Virendra Dangi informed the court that digging of land behind Amity University is illegal. They also said that 6,753 square meters were freed from encroachment in NIMS hospital. Also the construction of a hotel was stopped on an area of 23,000 square meters in Kant area.

Jaipur: Picnic to Nahargarh turns death trap for law student

Jaipur: A picnic trip to Nahargarh Fort proved death trap for second-year law student when his car skidded and fell into a gorge late on Saturday night. Four other classmates, who accompanied the deceased, also sustained injuries in the accident. Police have recovered body of the deceased and started investigation after registering a case in this regard.According to the police, the five students — Raja Sharma, Nishant, Raj Rana, Devashish and Akash, all of them in their early 20s — are students of LLB course in Amity University, located in Kukas on Jaipur-Delhi highway. They had gone for a picnic to Nahargarh hills in Rajas car on the eve of friendship day. The mishap occurrred while they were driving down, said an officer of Brahmpuri police station.Sources said that the car was recently gifted to Raja by his father, who lives in Anand Vihar locality of Delhi. Though police did not confirm whether the deceased and his friends were under the influence of liquor but sources said that they had consumed liquor while partying.
Brahmpuri police also said that while they were driving down the fort, another vehicle came from front on the sharp turn and in a bid to avoid collision, Raja lost control over the vehicle and the car fell into the gorge. The possibility of vehicle skidding due to rains and slippery road cannot be ruled out, said an official and added that the vehicle rolled down the steep hill to several hundreds feet before being entrapped in bushes.
During the accident, Rajas friends were thrown out of car while he got stuck inside the damaged vehicle. The police and 108 ambulance service could recover Rajas body more than two hours after the accident. Meanwhile, the police informed family members of the deceased and the body was handed over to them after post-mortem.
