DENTISTRY AS A PROFESSIONAL CAREER Dentistry, growing in demand as a professional career, caters not only to dental and oral health problems but also to the general health and well being of a person. It is said that dentistry is passing through silver age and the golden era is yet to come. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) is a five years degree course with theory as well as practical/ clinical teaching and training in 9 general medical subjects and 11 special dental subjects.
A vast range of cultural, educational, athletic and social activities are available to Surendera Dental College and Research Institute students, faculty and staff. Getting involved in campus life is the quickest way to become a part of the University community, and to create ones own experience. Campus life activities are built around the concepts of encouraging each community member to express his or her talents and to respect all members of our pluralistic community. One of the colleges most distinctive characteristics is its closely knit and integrated residential community. Housing is guaranteed for undergraduates, and nearly all students live on campus. The residential experience is central to Surenderas educational program, and the residential colleges offer students a supportive and enriching environment full of opportunities for personal growth.
Ever since the Late His Highness Ganga Singh Ji, who visualized and founded Sriganganagar, there havent been many visionaries who made a difference to the town or its people. Mr. Surendera Kumar Aggarwal, Chairman of the Trust, a philanthropist with a vision, migrated to Sriganganagar in 1988 with a mission to establish premier institutions for the propagation of medical and dental education to provide international standard medical and dental facilities to the society. He is a man with far sight and foresight both and a well known philanthropist who is adept at perceiving the perfect remedy for the ailing community and the people at large. It was after much persuasion and persistence of the Trustees that he finally agreed to lend his name to the College. Mr. Surendera Kumar Aggarwal formed and registered the trust in 1999 in the memory of his parents Late Smt.Vidyawanti and Sh.Labhu Ram. The trust aimed at dissemination of education in the fields of medicine and dentistry, paramedical and other allied sciences and to carry out research activities in fundamental and applied medical sciences, the ulterior motive being alleviation of sufferings of the society and pursue other philanthropic activities. There was no Dental College in Sriganganagar or even within the radius of 500 kms in Rajasthan, thus the trust decided to establish a Dental College and Hospital that would not only prepare professionals for tomorrow, but also give means of livelihood to so many who would be directly or indirectly attached with this profession.
This institute firmly believes in a wholesome and all round development of the students. Mens sana in corpore sano is the key word in the college, i.e., sound mind in a sound body. There is always an effort on the part of the institute to instill an air of confidence into the minds of its students and to make them competent and committed dental surgeons who can cope up with the rapidly changing scenario of dental health care of the country. Seminars are also conducted on the subjects of general awareness, environmental sciences, computer application and sociology. The environment of the institute is particularly conducive to the study and intensive training of the students. The college authorities are keen to project this institution on the world map.

PG Medical colleges with no hospital attached20th June 2009
Capitation fee scam is now passé. Another blatant violation of the norm by medical colleges has come to light on Friday: Medical colleges offering PG degree with no hospital facility.
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered attachment of such private dental colleges to government hospitals where students of the PG courses could carry on with their practicals.
Counsel Gaurav Sharma, who represented Dental Council of India (DCI) in the apex court, appealed withdrawal of permission to one such college at Sri Ganganagar, Surendra Dental College and Research Institute, for admissions in post-graduation courses. Gaurav Sharma cited lack of a valid tie-up with any hospital as ground for the action against the college.
He argued that PG courses being more practical-oriented, the colleges not being attached to a hospital is bound to impede the studies of the students. This will in turn result in the poor quality of education in such colleges.
The college produced permission of the health department of Rajasthan to attach itself to the government hospital. The letter of permission is dated May 26, 2009.
Drawing attention of the court to the fact that another private college in town is attached to the same government hospital, the counsel said, In the larger public interest, it is not appropriate to attach two dental colleges for the purpose of clinical training with a government hospital as the same would definitely deteriorate the standards of dental education, DCI said.
Returning the permission letter to the college s counsel, The Supreme Court remarked that it appears to be just taken out of the minister s pocket.
