Girls on streets: Maharani college girls block road in protestJaipur: The students of Maharanis College on Monday blocked traffic on Tonk Road, which brought the vehicles to a standstill for a few minutes on the busy street. The girls which were 20-25 in numbers were protesting the callous attitude of the college administration. They complained that the students of Bachelor of Arts (BA) first year in music stream havent got their revaluation marksheets of their first year examination. However, there was no response on their repeated pleas.
On Monday, the girls met the college officials who asked them to contact the university officials for their marksheets. With this response, they went to University of Rajasthan where RU officials again told them that every work had been completed on their end. Angered by this response, the girls returned to the college and started with their protest.
Currently, the process of filling the examination forms is going on in the college and the students of BA first year havent got their revaluation marksheets. The last date for filling up forms for next year has completed and nobody is informing the status of the marksheets, so we decided to take to the streets, said Neelam Rathod, general secretary of the college.
Despite making it to dream college, lack of documents makes them sufferJaipur: Despite being on the admission list, some students may still not make to the city prestigious Maharanis College.A few students on Monday reportedly met the Maharanis College authorities and expressed their inability to take admission due to lack of required documents viz mark sheets and transfer certificates.
We have been enlisted on the colleges first cut-off list, but we havent received our mark sheets from schools. When we reached the college to deposit admission fees, we were asked to submit the documents, said one of the students at Maharanis College. The aggrieved students later met college principal Prof Kusum Jain.
Some students have approached us with their concerns regarding non- availability of mark sheets and transfer certificates from their schools. The cut-offs, this time, has been declared through a computerized online process. Students need to have documents for confirming admission, said Jain. Jain, however, said she will take necessary action if required.
Meanwhile, a group of students, lead by some student leaders of the university, met V-C BL Sharma, demanding increase in the number of seats for admission. The vice-chancellor has assured us that hell review the demand for increasing seats, said Narsi Kirad, general secretary, Rajasthan University Students Union.
RU students allege anomaly in evaluationJaipur: The students of Rajasthan University do not appear to be satisfied with the way their results have been declared. Hundreds of students led by various groups protested outside the Maharanis College and V-C office alleging carelessness in the evaluations of answer sheets this year. The students of various honours degree courses have alleged university administration of declaring the results in a hurried manner.
Sources in the university also claimed that the administration had spent an additional Rs 2 crore this year to upgrade the examination system only.
The university administration has spent more than Rs 2 crore only for the examination reforms. But all these exercises have proved futile as students are surprised with the mark sheets. Just in Maharanis college, more than 100 students of honours courses are failed out of 150 appeared in the examinations, but they have scored well in other exam papers, said Amit Sharma, student leader, ABVP. He demanded the university administration to redesign the evaluation system.
On the other hand, the officials in the examination department says that students can even ask for revaluation if they have any grudge with the results.
