Infrastructure
To instill best teaching practices the LPU has focused particularly in strengthening the infrastructure of the seat of learning. LPU is the only university campus of North India that can boast of ample wireless network across the campus. The students are provided with an internet system which is powered by 4000 meter Fiber optic cable, in addition to a separate WLAN. Introduction
Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar is a private semi-residential university created under state government private university act. LPU is the largest private university in India in terms of potential student intake, and is situated on 600 acres of green area on NH-1 at the entry of Jalandhar city. The university currently has 24,000 students from 23 states and 5 countries and over 150 programs.[1][2] It is recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956. History
Lovely Professional University was founded by Late Shri Baldev Raj Mittal who was also the chairman of the Lovely Group. He began his entrepreneurial journey with contractorship and it was his hard work and earnestness that brought him accolades. Lovely Professional University is one of the largest Universities in India in terms of on-campus number of students. LPU has been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also included in the list of universities maintained by UGC. Library Profile
The University's Central Library is a state of the art Rf-Id equipped automated library. The automation of the library has completed its first phase with all library books furnished with Rf-Id tags. It is in step with the vision of an automated library where patrons can borrow and return books and other media entirely on their own. The library houses a collection of text and reference books, journals, magazines, audio/videos, CD-ROMs, research reports, online databases and data analysis softwares. It has a collection of books & Journals in all areas and branches required for all departments. Besides this, each School has its own library with a good collection of subject-specific books. Students with the help of state -of-the-art library search engine can locate any book in the library sitting at home and can also request for the hold of a particular book.

Library also houses a cyber caf having 250 terminals for internet search providing free access to students in the library itself.

Library Rules
1. Library remains open on all working days from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

2. Reference books, rare books and current periodicals are not issued to the students. However, they are allowed to draw and read them in the library.

3. Each book is issued for 7 days at a time. The date slip on the last page of the book bears a clear cut mention to this effect so that borrower knows the number of days for which the book is being issued to him/her.

4. Before entering the library students should make sure that they are in possession of the library-cum-identity card. Students should switch off their mobile phones while entering the library. Any student found using phone in the library will be fined Rs.500/-

5. The librarian can recall any book at any time, if necessary.

6. Books must be returned on or before the due date failing which fine will be charged for each volume kept over due in the following manner.

7. Borrowers shall be responsible for safe custody of the books they borrow from the library. In case of any damage, the last borrower shall be held responsible for the damage done to the book and he/she will be fined and may be asked to replace the book.

8. Loss of the library-cum-identity card should be intimated to the librarian without any delay otherwise the student concerned shall be held responsible if any other person gets a book issued on it.

9. Before a student leaves, he/she will have to return all the library books with him/her and get the library passbook cancelled in order to obtain the No Dues certificate from the library.

Facilities available in the Library
1. Library Membership: Any student and any faculty member who has joined the University/Institute can be the member of the Library.

2. Periodical & Newspaper Section: Every library holds a very rich collection of relevant periodicals and magazines. User may not get it issued but can get the same for consultation and reference purpose.

3. Net Lab: Internet facility is available within the library premises for easy access of information. In case of a student, he/she is supposed to submit his/her identity card to use the facility.

4. Reference service: User asking for a particular book is directed to where it is placed.

5. Easy search through software: Students can make easy search of particular title or book from library software.

6. Xerox facility: In every library there is a facility for Xerox for the convenience of students.

LPU-PSEB collaboraton for Adarsh School teachers
LPU collaborates with Punjab School Education Board to conduct Instructional workshops for "Adarsh School" teachers

In an attempt to train Adarsh School teachers towards latest school teaching techniques, Punjab State Education Board has collaborated with Lovely Professional University to conduct Instructional Workshops. The workshops aim at preparing teachers for technology oriented teaching programmes and improving the effectiveness of teaching with an emphasis on value inculcation, for the 9 Adarsh Schools which have been opened in Punjab. Adarsh schools which have been opened with the motive of providing quality education to the rural populace shall be targeted through this workshop so as to bring about effective class room teaching for the students. Through this workshop 43 lecturers teaching students of 11th and 12th, 89 teachers teaching students from class 1 to 10th and 6 primary level teachers will be trained to restructure the teaching methodology at the school level.

"The base should be formed for the students at the School level only. It is only when the fundamentals are clear, the students can grasp whatever is being taught in the higher classes," said Mr. Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University. "LPU has got this opportunity to contribute at the grass root level for both Primary and secondary level." After the success of this initiative he added that he is sure that the students as well as teacher will benefit immensely.

The workshop had been organized in to 6 phases. The first phase shall lay stress on training of the lecturers in all the Adarsh Schools in Punjab, the second phase would be directed towards junior and master level teachers of Muktsar and Bathinda and the third phase would lay stress on the training of the junior and master level teachers at Moga, Amritsar and Ferozepur.

The first session of the same took place today in Chandigarh where the specialists in the field of Education, from LPU delivered lectures on various issues like synchronization of cognitive and effective domain in class room teaching etc.

'It was an eye opener for the teachers. We learnt that through these modern techniques the students grasp the lectures very easily. I will surely implement them in my school,' said Mr. Prabhjot Singh, a computer lecturer at Bhago, Muktsar. LPU is the first university which has taken an initiative in this regards.

'LPU has taken many initiatives to change the outlook and the teaching patterns at the grass root level. We are positive that through these small initiatives, a difference can be brought in,' said Mr. Mittal

Dr Rameshwar S. Kanwar has joined Lovely Professional University as Vice-Chancellor
Jalandhar, July 5 Renowned hydrologist Dr Rameshwar S. Kanwar has joined Lovely Professional University as Vice-Chancellor. After teaching at the prestigious Iowa State University, USA, for more than three decades and more recently on the Chair of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department, he has come back to his home country.

An MS degree holder from the G.B. Pant University of Agricultural and Technology in India and a Ph.D in water resources from Iowa State University, Prof Ramesh Kanwar is a renowned academician, researcher and a respected teacher. Dr Kanwar specialises in irrigation, drainage, groundwater quality, animal waste management, water table management, sustainable agricultural production systems and modelling of hydrologic systems, engineering solution to emerging global environmental problems from agricultural and livestock production systems. Apart from Iowa State University students, he also taught undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D students in Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Uzbekistan as well as India. He has been an honorary professor at Beijing AgriculturalUniversity in China, Ningxia University in China, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanisation in Uzbekistan and Trakia University in Bulgaria.

On the occasion of his joining, Chancellor, LPU, Ashok Mittal said, 'Dr Kanwar's international outcomes, thoughts and progressive manners will help us realise the dreams we have already envisaged for. He has worked for the World Bank, FAO, UNDP, USAID, NATO, and foreign universities/governments in Belgium, Portugal, Kenya, Ethiopia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, China, Thailand, Japan and several other countries. Addressing the students and faculty, Dr Kanwar said, 'I am looking forward to lead LPU. After spending 35 years at the US, coming back to India is really exhilarating and thrilling. I will strive further to bring improvement in the academics and betterment in the whole system.'

Lovely Professional University scientists develop anti-cancer medicine to overcome side affects

NEW DELHI: The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Lovely Professional University (LPU) has got their patent (PCT) published in 140 countries for the development of Targeted Release Microsphere of 5-FU ( 5-fluorouracil). This new technology is useful in overcoming the side effects of the drugs used in treatment of colon cancer and has been developed indigenously by the dean, faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr Monica Gulati and her team at LPU.

Realizing the potential of the invention, an MOU has been signed between LPU and pharmaceutical company Rhydburg at Dehradun. Rhydburg is one of the manufacturers and exporters of pharmaceuticals- tablets, injections, beta lactam, syrups and capsules, among others. Chancellor of LPU, Ashok Mittal said: The research facilities at the university are being extended to aim at the world class innovations and research in the university. The present patent which has already been published for 140 countries has further motivated us to perform better.

Lovely Professional University collaborates with 400 years old University of Zagreb (Croatia)

Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University has recently tied up with one of the prestigious and 400 years old, University of Zagreb, from Eastern European Country Croatia, to strengthen Internationalisation for LPU. In this regard, University representatives had been discussing to foster mobility and exchange of students and teaching staff. In response to the same, Dean Prof. Davor Romic and Vice Dean Prof. Milan Mesic from the faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb visited LPU and met Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Ms. Rashmi Mittal and Vice Chancellor Dr. Rameshwar Kanwar. The visiting educationists discussed mutual cooperation in relation to students and culture exchange programmes, faculty development, international projects in higher education and joint researches. On this occasion, an MOU was signed between both the Universities. Taking lead in this regard, 20 students of LPU will go to Croatia for the cultural performances to not only promote Indian culture but also to propagate quality Indian higher education.

Informing about the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Romic said: Our University is the leading higher education and science institution in the field of agriculture and technology sciences. We are always ready to share our gains in this field with other partner Universities. He added, We are happy to share our expertise, under this tie-up, with the largest University of India- the great country which is going to be next super power. Moreover, such a relationship is must for any of the progressive University. In this context, valuable and interactive lectures, about agriculture and its importance, were also delivered by both the Croatian Professors for the awareness of the LPU students.

Talking about the purpose of present collaboration, the Chancellor of LPU, Mr. Ashok Mittal said: We are indeed very happy to collaborate with oldest and biggest Croatian university in South-Eastern Europe, with its comprehensive programmes and near 60,000 full-time students. We are also hopeful in regard to this tie-up, which is in a way marrying between Croatian High-End Technology and Indian Information Technology to bring forth the best research projects.

Revealing strong desire to acquire the major role in the field of agricultural sciences, he added: As India is a land with agriculture being the main occupation; we have introduced B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes in Agriculture Sciences to let students opt agriculture, too, as their career. Through this tie-up we anticipate to bring lot of new techniques and agricultural activities so that students may get well prepared as leaders of tomorrow for required change. He further remarked that this tie up is also going to guide Indian farmers in relation to new technology available for advancement. In fact, both tied-up Universities aim to be actively involved in the international education and scientific system.
