CENTRAL LIBRARY
Library is the heart of any institution SUKHAM MEMORIAL CENTRAL LIBRARY was founded with the establishment of Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering & Technology in the year 2009. The library began its journey with a collection of mere two thousand books of different subjects related to Engineering, Management, along with a few periodicals. Under the guidance of founding Chairman of the BGIET, Sangrur.The library has grown rapidly over the years and is today a treasure house of learning resources. The library is presently housed in a new double storey state of art building. The new building was inaugurated by Honorable Justice M M Kumar. The library has a capacity of 500 users at a time. The library building is divided into several sections spread over a covered area of approx. 33000 sq.ft.

The library caters its services to Students, Faculty members, Research Scholars and Staff of the college. The library presently has more than 3500 regular members. The Library is open for 12 hours every day from 8.00 A.M to 8.00 P.M. The Library aims to facilitate its users in their endeavor for study, teaching and research etc., The library ensures collection, prevention and protection of the invaluable treasure of rare Books, Journals, Magazines, Newspapers and Audio videos. The Library is air-conditioned, fully automated and uses Library Management Software. Library has developed a comprehensive collection of information that is useful for teaching and reference purposes The learning resources are upgraded regularly as per requirements and the indent received from users. Even students can place an indent for procuring books which is of interest to them. The Library at present houses more than 45,000 Books, 2000 back volumes of periodicals and journals, 2500 CD-ROMs, Project reports etc. on different disciplines like Computers Science & Technology, various streams of engineering, Business, Management, and its Applied Sciences. Beside the above collection, Library has also a rich collection of books Personality Development and Business promotion etc.. Library is presently subscribing 220 National and International Journals, 15 daily Newspapers. More than 500 International Online Journals in different areas are also subscribed through INDEST-AICTE consortium.

Placement Cell
o provide industry relevant directions and guidance to students an effective training and placement cell is involved in arranging pre-placement discussions, on/off campus interviews, project placement and final placement. Cell arranges the industrial visits, summer training, seminars, workshops and guest lectures by eminent academicians, administrators and successful entrepreneurs. Cell helps the students in finding a career that matches students' skills and interest. Training & Placement Cell was established to have industry- institute interaction and to develop student skills to achieve success in professional career. Cell is associated with all engineering departments of the institute. To coordinate the activities of placement cell, a placement committee of students of various disciplines has been constituted.

On the placement front the institute has done exceedingly well. Despite the global meltdown, the institute continues to provide 100% placement to all its eligible students. In a span of last two years only, as much as 85 top Indian and Multi-National Companies have visited the campus and 232 students were placed last year taking the total tally to 2800 till date.

MEGA JOB FAIR-2010: 17 reputed National & Multinational Companies participated in the two-day 'Mega Job Fair', organized at BGIET Campus. About 2500 students from several prominent technical and professional institutes of Punjab and neighbouring states participated. The selected students were offered an attractive annual pay package of 1.5 to 4 lacs.out of the 324 short listed students 178 selected students were given offer letter on the spot while for the rest of the students offer letters will be sent with in a week. It is worth mention that out of which 105 students were from BGIET and BGIMT.

Training and Placement Cell organized more than 20 programmes for the students on topics like Vedic Mathematics, Communication Skills, Personality Development, Career Counselling, Meditation and Yoga etc. About Training To utilize the theoretical and practical knowledge gained during the courses, students are required to undergo:
* 4 weeks institutional training in the college after 2nd Semester.
* 8 weeks vocational training after 4th Semester.
* 6 months industrial training during Seventh/Eighth Semester.

Additional Information
Nature and Extend of involvement of faculty and student in academic affairs / improvements
* Every Department has a schedule and scheme of teaching. At the end of the semester, subject allotment is made along with the laboratory schedules, in the staff meeting.
* Teachers provide lesson plans and schedule of all lectures.

* At regular interval, feed back from the students are taken and necessary corrective actions are made.

Location
The institute is located on the main Sangrur-Patiala highway ( NH-64) about ten km. from Sangrur providing a peaceful and picturesque environment ideal for learning. The campus extends over an area of 40 acres comprising architecturally well planned and aesthetically designed blocks in which lecture theatres, tutorial rooms and drawing halls are housed. In addition to these, college has an auditorium, library, conference hall, computer centre, workshops, hygienic canteen, exclusive hostels for boys and girls. College has lush green lawns, play grounds, basketball court and student centre. There is a branch of Punjab National bank and a post office in the campus.

Academic complex inaugurated

Mr Jagdish Singh Garcha, Technical Education Minister, Punjab, today called upon the Punjabis to persue the field of technical education to check unemployment in the state.

Mr Garcha was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new Techno-Academic Complex of the Bhai Gurdas College of Engineering and Technology here.

Mr Garcha said the Punjab Government was drawing up plans to set up information and technology industries in the state. Mr R.S. Lehri, Director of the College, read out the progress report of the college.

On this occasion, “Rendezvous-2001”, a cultural fest was also organised by the students of the college.

Among others who spoke on the occasion, included Mr Ranjit Singh Balian, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Baldev Mann, AM, PSEB; Mr Nanak Chand Kalra, Chairman, Improvement Trust, Sangrur Mr Parkash Chand Garg, Chairman, Land Reclamation Corporation; Mr Paramjit Singh Gill, ADC to Governor and Mr Hakam Singh Jawanda, Chairman of Bhai Gurdas College Trust.

The minister also announced Rs 21,000 for the students who presented the cultural programme.

Adopt Japanese management style

SANGRUR, Stressing upon the adoption of Japanese style of management, Prof B.S. Bhatia, Registrar of Punjabi University, Patiala, who is also an expert in management education advocated the concepts of quality circle and total quality management.

Prof Bhatia was delivering a lecture on different management aspects; especially the Japanese style of management at Bhai Gurdas College of Engineering and Technology here yesterday.

Making a comparative evaluation of different styles of management, Prof Bhatia said in the age of global competition, the managers should think and act globally.” He also stressed on the need of innovation in the field of management and proper development of human resources.

Prof K.C. Mittal, Director of the college, highlighted the achievements of the college in introducing IT specialisation in MBA stream and starting BCA course. Mr R.S. Jawanda, Chairman of the college trust, announced that from next session, the college would start MCA programme.

Lectutre by Panjab University Professor

LECTURE: Prof A.K. Vashist, Business Management Professor at Panjab University, on Wednesday stressed on quality management education in the backward regions of the state. He was delivering a special lecture on “Capital budgeting — its applications, significance and various techniques “at Bhai Gurdas College of Engineering and Technology here. Professor Vashist said the capital investment decision was of single most importance in any business enterprise. He explained the various techniques of capital investment, including the net present value method, the index rate of return and the profitability index.

Prof K.C. Mittal joined as Director of Bhai Gurdas College of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur, on Wednesday. Before joining this institute, he was teaching at Punjab School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. He did MBA from International Institute of Management, H.P. Guest house inaugurated: Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Sangrur, Garima Singh on Friday inaugurated a campus guest house at the local Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology. Hakam Singh Jawandha, Chairman, Bhai Gurdas Group of Institutions, was also present on the occasion. Garima Singh appreciated the role of Bhai Gurdas Group of Institutions in the field of technical education. Jawandha said the guest house had been equipped with all modern facilities.
