About Us

Chitrakoot has been a symbol of sublime culture and social order since ancient times. This idyllic pilgrim resort is known for various places associated with Lord Ram; besides this, it is one of the most ancient centres of education and research. Maharishi Atri and Anasuya founded the first educational centre of the world at Chitrakoot. This holy place of Chitrakoot has been a place of sadhana for great saints and Rishis like Maharashi Sutikshna, Bharadwaj, Sarbhanga & Balmiki. Students from all parts of the country would come to the various ashramas of Rishis & Munis. Lord Ram imparted the message of creating sustainable social structure at Chitrakoot through participatory approach of the natives and other beings. Mahakavi Tulsidas received inspiration to write the epic Sriramacharitamanas, which optimizes ideal life in society.

With passage of time and deprivation of resources, development of the Chitrakoot was affected. The villages were constrained due to lack of proper growth of agriculture and agro-enterprises. To create enlightened future citizenry and also to realize the Gandhiji's dream of rural development, MGCGV was established on 12th Feb. 1991 on the banks of the holy river Mandakini through a separate MP Govt. Act (9, 1991) on the auspicious day of Mahashivaratri at Chitrakoot, Distt. Satna (M.P.). The main objectives of the University are to provide education and dissemination of appropriate technology.

B Ed college issue: Education departments dirty game exposed

Bhopal:In what raises questions over the working of the higher education department of the state, several B Ed colleges, which were banned earlier, have once again been approved by the department despite them not been recognised by the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE).

Just days before the B Ed counselling, the higher education department had sent a list of 39 black listed colleges following an inspection done according to the NCTEs set rules.
According to sources, when NCTE compared the list of colleges with those having the required affiliation of the council, the names of three colleges-Rewnath Chaurey College, Sonsar, SDM College, Siwni Malwa, and Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College, Umaria- was missing.

Interestingly, following the re-inspection of all the colleges, the higher education department removed the names of 24 colleges, including the above mentioned three colleges, from the list of banned colleges.
Now, the department has approached the NCTE asking it not to take action against the colleges.
While the officials of the higher education department official denied to comment on the issue in the absence of chief secretary Prabhansu Kamal, who is currently on leave, NCTE officials described the matter as serious.
It is a serious issue. Strict action will be taken if the matter is reported to me, Dr. HS Triparthy, Director, WRC, NCTE, said.

Commenting on the issue, former vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya University Gyanendra Singh said that in the past couple of years several such cases have come to light.
The officials of the higher education department are aware of all the developments but they have turned a bind eye towards it as the issue involves huge amount of money, said Singh.

He also pointed out that the concerned department must come out with some concrete policy to tackle the problem.
