Jabalpur sex-for-marks scandal: Awadesh University registrar suspendedBhopal: Acting on its decision to take stringent action against the accused in the alleged sex-for-marks scandal at the Jabalpur Medical College, the Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday suspended Rewas Awadhesh Pratap Singh University (APSU) registrar Vijay Sharma.
Sharma, who has earlier held the position of a registrar at the Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya (RDV) to which the Jabalpur Medical College is affiliated, has now been attached to the Rewas Regional Directors Office. The government took the decision to suspend Sharma following his arrest last week.
Earlier on Tuesday, sources told Dainik Bhaskar that the crime branch of the Jabalpur police has sought information about three doctors from the Barkatullah University in connection with the alleged sex-for-marks scandal.According to crime branch sources, the papers of revaluation seized from the Jabalpur Medical College carried the signatures and names of the three doctors – Dr. Manoj Shakya and Dr. Arti Kapoor and Dr. Manju Srivastava.Dr. Shakya and Dr. Kapoor were reportedly associated with the Peoples Medical College while Dr. Srivastava worked with the Peoples Dental College. However, cops have not been able to ascertain where these doctors are currently working, which is why they have asked the BU registrar to inform the police if any of them is associated with a medical institute affiliated to the university.
The crime branch also plans to visit Gwalior to quiz six other doctors who revaluated answer sheets. Two of these doctors have retired while four are associated with the Gwalior Medical College. The alleged sex-for-marks scandal hit Jabalpur Medical College (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College) after Sandhu Arya, a dalit MBBS student, lodged a police complaint in February, claiming that her senior Prerna Atwal told her she would have to sleep with one Raju Khan if she wanted to get her marks increased in revaluation.According to Sandhu, though the results were not declared, Prerna told her she had failed in two subjects but that Khan was a man with contacts and could get the job done.RDVs Controller of Examination Prof SS Rana and Deputy Registrar RS Kakodia were arrested on March 1 in connection with the case. They have since been released on bail. Khan too has been arrested and is currently in judicial custody.
Vijay Sharma, the former registrar of the Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya (RDV) to which the Jabalpur Medical College is affiliated, was also recently arrested in connection with the case.On the request of Sandhu, the state government transferred her to the Gwalior Medical College for pursuing further studies while inquiry against Prerna is still underway.
