Section - II : Criterion-wise Analysis
Criterion-1 : Curricular Aspects:
At present, the college is offering only undergraduate courses in 12 subjects i.e., 5 courses Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Math's in science faculty, English, Hindi, Political Science, Economics, Sociology and History in Arts faculty and B.Com in the Commerce faculty. The curriculum of the various subjects is designed by the university through its Boards of Studies as per the UGC guidelines issued from time to time and send to the college. Admissions to various courses are made on the basis of the merit and reservation policy of the state government. Hence, the institution has no freedom in framing curriculum. The college issues a prospectus annually through which students and parents make choice of courses at the time of admission. The opportunity of horizontal mobility in changing their subjects is based on the availability of seats. The syllabus is provided to the students in the beginning of academic year by the concerned teachers.

Criterion - 2 : Teaching, Learning and Evaluation:
The Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya has only 12 permanent faculty members including the principal and 02 Guest Lecturers. The teachers are a constant source of inspiration and motivation for their students and take 18 to 24 hours work load per week. Every teacher takes keen interest in teaching the allotted classes by utilizing the syllabus. The faculty members maintain a teaching diary. There were 180 teaching days out of the 210 working days available during the last academic session. The teachers constantly update themselves by attending faculty development programmes like seminars, symposia, refresher courses etc. The syllabus is unitized and provided to the students. The teachers are recruited by the government as per the UGC guidelines. Out of 12 permanent teachers 6 are possessing Ph.D as the higher qualifications and 5 M.Phil qualifications. Two faculty members are sanctioned U.G.C. minor research projects and one is selected for a P.D.F. of the U.G.C. New Delhi. But in science subjects like chemistry, botany and zoology permanent teachers are not available due to lack of recruitment.

The students are admitted on the basis of their past academic record. The college also has a definite percentage of seats reserved for the students belonging to categories like SC/ST/OBC and physically disabled. A record of the attendance is maintained and monitored from time to time and the students are informed about their attendance at regular intervals of time.

Besides regular theory and practical classes the learning process is evaluated at every stage at the time of completion of academic session through slip tests. The college is known for its fair conduct of examinations. Apart from the flying squad constituted by the university, the college nominates some faculty members for the internal flying squad who help in the smooth conduct of examinations .The Govt. offers scholarships and book bank facility for the weaker section students of the college.

There is an annual teacher performance appraisal method under which the faculty members submit their self-appraisal in the confidential report, which is then graded by the head of the institution. The faculty members also maintain a daily-dairy and attendance register, which gives a detailed report about the work carried out by them on a daily basis. These are periodically checked by the Principal.

A guardian-tutor scheme has been introduced which has enabled the students to build a personal rapport with the teachers that helps in solving their difficulties. This scheme has also played an important role in monitoring the overall performance of the students.

Criterion - 3 : Research, Consultancy and Extension:
Although research is not a significant activity of the college, 6 teachers acquired Ph.D and another 5 teachers M.Phil qualifications out of a total of 12 permanent teachers. About 12 percent of the teachers are continuously engaged in research there are two minor research projects sanctioned by the UGC worth Rs. 25,000.00. in Hindi and Rs. 65,000/- in Mathematics. The college has no NCC but NSS programme is only take-up with unit of consisting 56 student The college conducts through NSS Health and Hygiene Programme, Adult Education, Blood Donation Camps, Aids Awareness and Environmental Awareness Programmes. One of the teachers is sanctioned a Post-Doctoral Fellowship by the U.G.C. and he has published 03 books and 17 articles. He is also given an award by the State Government. There is no consultancy work taken up by the college staff.

Criterion - 4 : Infrastructure and Learning Resources:
Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya is the only Higher Education institution in Berasia, a Tehsil of Bhopal. It has a campus of 10 acres. The building has the administrative set-up which comprises the principal's chamber and the college office. It also has a library provided with a reading room facility. The science faculty is provided with laboratories but they are very insufficient with regard to the instruments to conduct the practicals. There are only 02 computers purchased and kept in the library but not properly utilized due to lack of electricity . Although the library is automized but the college is unable to use the computer due to non-availability of electricity in the day time. The laboratories facilities are also not fully utilized due to the same reason . There is no qualified physical director appointed by the govt. and one of the teachers of the college is made in charge of it. The number of library books are around only 12000 thousand purchased during the past 20 years and there is a grave shortage of books in all the subjects specially in science courses.

There is a games and sports department and the college has its own play ground but govt has to yet to appoint physical director for properly training the students. The maintenance of infrastructure is done by state public works department.

Criterion - 5 : Student Support and Progression:
The students are given admission on the basis of their past academic performance. The College makes efforts to improve the attendance and examination results of the students through personal counseling and parent contact programme. The students of the college take interest in extra curricular activities of the college like elections to the students unions, youth festivals, college day celebrations etc.

The college has a career guidance cell headed by faculty member as the convener and others as members. The cell organizes Guest lectures now and then to guide the students through their experience and knowledge. The college also has a disciplinary committee which ensures safety and cordial atmosphere of the institution. There is no Alumni association at present. The SC, ST and OBC students get several types of scholarships sanctioned by the state government. More than 200 students got the benefit during the last 2 years. The Games Department conducts various games like Basket-Ball, Table Tennis, Volley Ball etc.

Criterion - 6 : Organisation and Management:
The Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya is a Government institution. The principal of the college is the academic and administrative head of the institution, who monitors the functioning of the various sections of the institution. The Principal is assisted by a group of qualified faculty members who work on various committees. The College is short of Non-Teaching Staff and most of the work is shared by the teaching staff.

The college also has a small supporting staff who are working in the different sections like college office like accounts section, administrative section and also laboratories. A number of facilities are available for the govt. employees like loans for housing, vehicle, medical aid, bonus, festival advance etc. There is a grievance redressal cell which is constituted to take care of the grievance and difficulties of the employees. There is a special committee to look after the grievances of the women students of the college.

The college has a Janbhagidari Samiti constituted by the state government, which has a government nominee as the chairperson to look after work for the various developmental activities of the college but at present no significant work is taken by it. The college is privileged to have Shri Bakhtpal Singh MLA., as the Chairman of its Janbhagidaari Samiti and prominent persons drawn from all walks of life as it members. But this Samiti is not working.

The accounts section works as per the guidelines of the govt. which includes collection of fees, payment of scholarships to students and salaries of employees, loans etc. There is an arrangement for audit and stock verification of each section by government.

For the smooth functioning of the college calendar, the principal has formed various committees like discipline, timetable, admissions and examinations, which comprise of faculty members from different departments.

Criterion - 7 : Healthy Practices:
The following are some of the healthy practices of the College.

A team of well-qualified teaching and non-teaching staff assists the Principal. Various committees are constituted well in advance of the academic session to carryout activities like admission discipline, examinations etc.

The faculty members are required to maintain their daily diary and register which is duly signed by the principal every month. They also maintain a record of all activities academic and non-academic in which they are involved and are submitted in the annual confidential report. The principal on the basis of the performance of the faculty member grades the confidential report.

The faculty members constantly guide, encourage and motivate the students in every field. The students are groomed for their all round development through other extra-curricular activities like youth-festival and NSS.

There is an annual stock verification work of the different sections and an arrangement for internal audit.

The election of the students to the college union is held every year as per the directions of the govt. normally in the last week of August. Only this year they were not conducted due to extraneous reasons.

Section -III : OVERALL ANALYSIS
The entire above analysis shows us that the college has made some progress during the last 20 years of its establishment in the form of constructing the building and some lab facilities and library facilities. The following are some of the important observations of the Peer Team.

The college requires a permanent principal for efficient management and development.

The college has no freedom in framing the curricular and offering what ever is provided by the University.

The performance of the students in the annual examinations is not treasure worthy as 1st classes are very rare.

The science teaching is poorly carried out due to lack of electricity and insufficient laboratory equipment.

Except one teacher no other faculty members were found publishing papers or books.

The extension work of the college is limited to a few NSS activities only.

The Infrastructure facilities with regard to library, electricity and games, sports need immediate attention.

The Alumni Association has yet to be formed and Jan Bhagidari Samiti has to be made active.

The number of non-teaching staff also has to be increased in order to strength the office functions.

Despite the above limitations, the college has been catering to the requirements of S.C. and S.T. students in the backward setting of Madhya Pradesh. The department of Hindi is found to be academically very active by way of publishing books and papers and also research project. Most of the faculty members were found to be possessing Ph.D. and M.Phill. degrees although they have lot of work load pressure due to shortage of teaching staff.

Section -IV : SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
After a through study of the facilities at the college the Peer Team making the following suggestions and recommendations for improving the functioning of the college to enhance the quality in future.

There is a need to strengthen the teaching faculty in the science departments specially in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology by permanent teachers

The College can introduce job oriented and demanding courses like M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Computers, B.Ed. and other short term diploma courses to fulfill the desires of the local students and parents.

P.G. Courses in Botany, Commerce and M.B.A. may be started by the government as they are in great demand by the students.

To strengthen the games and sports activity at the college, there is a need to appoint a qualified Physical Director at the college.

As most of the students come from far off places it is desirable to establish a canteen which can provide food items at subsided rates.

The library requires lot of strengthening by adding sufficient number of books specially in science courses along with commerce and Arts subjects.

The faculty members may be further motivated to undertake more and more minor and major research projects to strengthen research.

The laboratory instruments at present are not sufficient and they require lot of strengthening.

The college can encourage the establishment of an Alumni Association which can take up certain developmental activities for further strengthening the facilities of the college.

The college can think of developing good communication skills among the students by establishing the language laboratory with U.G.C. assistance.

The college can resort to remedial teaching programme to develop the capabilities of the slow learners as to make them to complete in the job market.

The Peer Team thanks the management, the principal, the teaching and non-teaching staff and the students of the college for the excellent co-operation they have given to the the team and wishes all the best to the college in future.
