Bharati Vidyapeeth University follows a practice of revising course structure and syllabi frequently as required. As of today there are more than 381 students from 36 countries enrolled with various colleges of the university. Bharati Vidyapeeth University has created a separate cell to help and guide International students regarding admission process and for resolving queries. Introduction
The Bharati Vidyapeeth established by Dr. Patangrao Kadam in Pune in 1964. The mission, which Bharati Vidyapeeth has defined for itself is to bring about intellectual awakening of people through the spread of knowledge and education to inculcate all sided development of human resources beneficial for overall development of the country. During the last 45 years or so, Bharati Vidyapeeth made astonishing strides in the field of education, particularly, Higher and Professional Education. It runs more than 151 institutions consisting of schools, institutions of higher education, including those of professional education and other sections. Among them are, Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurved, Homeopathy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Architecture, Management, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Environment Science etc. With a view to promote research activities and to create research culture on its campuses, Bharati Vidyapeeth has established five specialized research institutes in the areas of health related Sciences, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Applied Chemistry and Social Sciences.

As the years passed by, it achieved newer and newer heights of success. It searched for newer and newer horizons and expanded its sphere of activities at unbelievable speed. Thanks to the vision, commitment, and sincerity of the purpose, hard work and confidence of its Founder, Dr. Patangrao Kadam. The Bharati Vidyapeeth has its major campuses in New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Panchgani, Jawhar, Raigadh and quite few other places. Bharati Vidyapeeth is probably the only organization from Maharashtra having its campus in the capital city of India. It is not only in the urban areas that Bharati Vidyapeeth has started its institutions, its schools and colleges have dotted rural areas and even the remotest tribal and coastal areas of Maharashtra.

Subsequently, there was further expansion of the scope of activities of Bharati Vidyapeeth. It started many other institutions as its sister concerns. They include cooperative units of various kinds, several Trusts, quite a few service institutions and even an orphanage. Bharati Vidyapeeth always put a premium on the quality of education imparted to the students through the institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth. It has always been emphasized that students of Bharati Vidyapeeth should get updated and excellent education in a very hospitable and conducive atmosphere. So Bharati Vidyapeeth is very selective about the appointments of academic staff. It provides enriched infrastructural facilities, well-equipped laboratories, well-developed libraries and sprawling playgrounds and other amenities to its institutions.

26th April, 1996 was the moment of crowning glory in the life of Bharati Vidyapeeth, as well as, of Dr. Patangrao Kadam, the day on which, the Government of India on the recommendations of University Grants Commission granted the status of Deemed to be University to a cluster of 12 institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth in appreciation of their academic excellence. It was the day of dream came true for Dr. Patangrao Kadam who cherished an ambition of gaining the stature of a university for Bharati Vidyapeeth since its inception. At present there are 32 constituent units of Bharati Vidyapeeth University.

Profile of University
Bharati Vidyapeeth University, headquartered at Pune in Maharashtra, has its campuses in Pune, New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Solapur, Kolhapur, Karad and Sangli. Apart from these, there are more than 20 constituent units of the University imparting education in various fields. The University is a member of Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Bharati Vidyapeeth has been accredited with an 'A' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Dr. Patangrao Kadam laid the foundation of Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, in Pune in the year 1964. Today, the university counts amongst the largest educational institutions of India. The following seventeen institutions together form the constituents of the Bhartiya Vidyapeeth (BVP) University of Pune, India.

Bharati Vidyapith, presently known as Bharati Vidyapith University, founded by Dr. Patangrao Kadam in 1964 has one of the largest chain of institutions running under it. It presently has a network of about 140 institutions. Major campuses are located in Pune, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolhapur, Sangli. It has several institutions ranging from schools to Medical and Engineering colleges running under it. In 1996, twelve colleges were brought under the BVU Deemed University. Five more colleges were added to this list later on. Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent body of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University was established in May, 1964 by Dr. Patangrao Kadam with the objective of bringing about intellectual awakening and all sided development of the people of our country through education. Bharati Vidyapeeth is now a leading educational institution in the country, which has created a history by establishing within a short span of 39 years or so 147 educational institutions imparting education from the pre-primary stage to post graduate stage. Our colleges and institutions of higher education impart education in different disciplines including Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurved, Homoeopathy, Nursing, Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Social Sciences, Law, Environmental Science, Architecture, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Physical Education, Computer Science, Library Science and Information Technology.

In recognition of the academic merit achieved by these institutions and potential for development which they have, the Department of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the University Grants Commission of India have accorded the status of a deemed to be university to Bharati Vidyapeeth with its fifteen constituent units. Besides these 147 educational institutions, Bharati Vidyapeeth has also been successfully running a Co-operative Bank, Co-operative Consumer Stores, a Co-operative Poultry, a Co-operative Sugar Factory, Charitable Hospitals and Medical Research Centre and the like.

History
Established in April 1996, Bharati Vidyapeeth University was set up by the Government of India under a section of the UGC Act, 1996. The University was formed from a cluster of institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth, the parent organization of the University. Bharati Vidyapeeth was granted the status of a University to honor the Organization's high academic excellence, infrastructural facilities and potential for further growth.

I am indeed happy to note your interest in joining our University. In this web site we have presented a brief profile of our Bharati Vidyapeeth University. I would very much like all of you to know about Bharati Vidyapeeth University and its parent body Bharati Vidyapeeth because these two institutions are distinct from others of their kind in many respects. I established Bharati Vidyapeeth in 1964 with a realization that the all sided social transformation can be brought about through the spread of education. During the last 43 years, we have established more than 160 educational units of various kinds' right from Pre-Primary School up to the University, in different parts of India and even in the capital city of New Delhi.

Bharati Vidyapeeth is an institution with its distinct ideology, which can be briefly stated thus.

Our objective is: to make quality education accessible to the students coming from different regions and different strata of the Society and to provide the same to them as per their individual choices and inclination at affordable prices.

Our constant endeavour is to create ambiance in the campuses propitious for learning by providing continuously updated courses and with the help of enriched infrastructural facilities such as well equipped laboratories, rich library and well maintained playground, hostels. It is a gratifying experience for me to know that thousands of students who have passed out from the portals of our institutions have established themselves very well in different walks of life. In April, 1996, the Government of India conferred the status of University to a cluster of our institutions in accordance with the provisions in the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.Since the inception of this University, our endeavour has been to develop it as a lively and throbbing center of learning and research. I am very happy to say here that, within the short span of a decade or so, this University has established its academic reputation not only across the country but also outside. This is evident from the fact that we get students from different parts of India and also from different countries. Our both the campuses in Pune are very well planned and very well developed also. They can be easily compared with the leading educational campuses in the country. We provide all the necessary amenities and facilities to our students on our campuses.

Admission Information
Eligibility Certificate is the first document, which enables the students to get admission to the chosen course in the university Jurisdiction. In the interests of the students as well as in the academic interests of the University, it is necessary that the process of issuing eligibility certificate should be completed expeditiously. If such process is delayed or remains faulty due to any reason students and along with them all other concerned have to suffer. Money spends by the students and their valuable years go waste because of such delay in issuing certificates.

To avoid such eventuality or at least to minimize the same, it is necessary that this process should be completed very carefully, cautiously and with speed. The Heads of Colleges as well as Directors of constituent units of Bharati Vidyapeeth University are requested to carefully note the following instructions for this purpose.

*The Principal of the college or Director of the institute should check that the applicant satisfies all the conditions of admission to the concerned course before admitting such applicant and admissions are made according to the rules.

* The originals & two attested copies should be retained by the College / Institute and should be made available to the University officials at the time of Eligibility camp or thereafter whenever asked for.

* The student and the admission authority both are responsible for any discrepancy error, wrong or incomplete information in the form.

* The Principal and Director of the constituent unit of B.V.U. should note the contents of University circulars issued in this behalf from time to time.

* Please note that the Eligibility rules should be strictly followed while giving admission to the students and if any candidate is found ineligible, the Principal/ Director of the institute will be held personally responsible for the lapse and the University office shall not be a party to any litigation arising out of this critical position.

* It should be carefully checked that the students enter all the required information in the prescribed eligibility form and no column in the form is left blank.

Photocopies of the following documents in the neat and legible form with endorsement as true copy by the Principal/ Head of the Dept./ Director of the institute or teacher incharge of admissions, under his signature and stamp (with date) should be enclosed. Certificates not so attested will be rejected. Original Documents should NOT be enclosed except migration and affidavit for educational gap and change of name, if applicable. University office will not be responsible for any loss of original documents if enclosed.

* Statement of Marks (Last qualifying exam.)
* Passing /Degree Certificate (If statement of marks does not make clear - class /percentage of marks of the student in the relevant examination).
* Migration Certificate (Original).
* Transfer Certificate (If applicable).
* Attendance Certificate, if applicable.
* Affidavit regarding gap in education and /or change of name (in the original), if applicable.
* Copy of the admission letter issued by admission authority in case of C. E. T. admission process by University office.

If student fails to submit any of the above-mentioned certificates along with the application form, his/her admission shall be treated as provisional and shall stand cancelled on 20th December of the current academic year.

CANDIDATES BELONGING TO SC/ST CATEGORIES MUST SUBMIT THE CASTE VALIDITY CERTIFICATE.
The courses for which condition of minimum percentage of marks is required; the relaxation of 5% marks if applicable to particular course be given to the above-mentioned categories.

The College shall receive eligibility fees from their students and shall issue receipts thereof. The Principal shall submit demand draft or cheque in the name of 'The Registrar, Bharati Vidyapeeth, University, Pune - 30' of the amount so collected within four days from the date of eligibility checking.

* Change in Name:
It should be ensured that name of the student in the application form for eligibility and Statements of Mark, Passing Certificate; degree certificate of the qualifying examination or in any other documents enclosed herewith is the same. In case, there is a difference in the name i.e. in case of girl- student, if name after marriage is different then proof for 'change in the name', such as copy of Government Gazette, Marriage Registration Certificate; Affidavit should be enclosed along with the application form. Eligibility Certificate will not be issued in the absence of such documentary proof

* Migration Certificate:

* The student migrating from the jurisdiction of the B. V. U. to any other University shall apply for migration certificate to the University, through the Principal/ Head/ Director in the prescribed application form. The concerned Principal / Head / Director shall forward the application along with the Transfer Certificate, after careful verification of the documents so as to avoid unnecessary correspondence.

* The application form for Migration Certificate is available in the University office on Payment of RS. 10/-. The student shall pay RS. 100/- as 'Migration Certificate fee' in the form of Demand Draft or by cash. Draft should be drawn in the name of & payable to 'Registrar, Bharati Vidyapeeth, University, Pune - 30 on any nationalized Bank along with the application form.

* Migrated Student with A. T. K. T. are Not Eligible for Admission:

No student coming from another university shall be eligible for admission in this university in the next higher class, unless he is declared as passed in the preceding year / class of the former university, i. e. the student who has been granted ATPT/ ATKT in any course by other university shall not be eligible for admission in the next higher class of the course in this university.

* Student who has appeared for supplementary examination Not Eligible:

Student who has appeared for any supplementary examination of the Statutory Board/ University shall not be eligible for admission in higher class in this University unless he/she is declared as Passed before the last date prescribed for admission to the course.

* The Principal / Director shall carefully note the following conditions while scrutinizing the eligibility of the students for the course: -

* Student with S. S. C. and G. D. C. are not Eligible:

Student passing S. S. C. examination with English and Government Commercial Diploma examination of Government of Maharashtra are not eligible for admission to the F. Y. Course of any faculty.

* Student with 11years H. S. C. / S. S. L. C. are not Eligible:

* Students passing the Higher Secondary Examination of any Board with duration of 11 years are not eligible for admission to any course; Where H.S.C. (XII std.) or equivalent examination is the minimum qualification in this University. (e.g. Rajasthan Board, M. P. Bhopal Board etc.)
* Students passing the school level examination conducted by the following Boards will not be admitted to any course in this University on the basis of certificates of these Boards.

The student passing the Three year Final Diploma Examination in Engineering conducted by the Board of Technical Examinations, Maharashtra state is eligible for admission to the first year B.A. / B. Sc. / B. C. S. / B. Com. / New five year Law course, (subject to approval of BCI), B.E.

* Admission to courses after Graduation:

For the purpose of admission to Second Graduation course or Post Graduation course the candidate should have passed Graduate course of three-year duration of this University or any other statutory University or equivalent examination.

In case of graduate with two years course duration (i. e. Calcutta University) the candidate securing minimum 50 % marks at graduation examination will be held eligible for admission to such course.

(E) Note: The student shall be allowed to keep terms for one Degree and one Diploma / Certificate course simultaneously in the same academic year.

Procedure for submitting Eligibility application forms / list and eligibility fee: -
* The student should submit the application form for the certificate of eligibility to the college along with requisite documents and fee at the time of admission.

* College will prepare separate lists of students in triplicate Category wise as well as Course wise.

* These list along with separate demand drafts of total fees collected should be submitted to the University on or before dates mentioned in our separate circular. The officer of the University will be ratain two copies and Demand Draft and return one copy of such list by endorsing it with his signature as receipt to the college.

* All the application forms arranged course wise and class wise as per list will be kept in the college and be submitted at the time of eligibility checking. The date and time of eligibility checking allotted to the colleges will be communicated separately.

*The Principals / Directors are earnestly requested to ensure that admission are given strictly in accordance with rules and regulations.

*If the colleges have any difficulty while deciding eligibility of any candidate for admission to any course, they should refer the case to the University along with all certificates.

*Notwithstanding anything contained in the above rules of admission, Rules made by Govt. of Maharashtra, Govt. of India, time-to-time and approved by the University Authorities shall prevail.

Educational Streams
Bharati Vidyapeeth University has established 26 constituent colleges that impart quality education in varied disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Facilities
Bharati Vidyapeeth University has two campuses at Pune in Dhankawadi and Erandwane. Both the campuses are well-equipped with state-of-the-art modern amenities. Stern action against striking teachers

Pune: As the striking lecturers are not budging before the government, higher and technical education minister Rajesh Tope said that the government will take stern action against those who are on strike.

Tope was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the anniversary function of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University on Thursday.

The state government had already issued an ultimatum to the striking lecturers affiliated to the Maharashtra Federation of University College Teachers Union (MFUCTU), to return to work by Friday or face action.

Tope said, If the lecturers who are on strike, do not return to work, then, stern action will be taken against them and initially, a show cause notice will be issued to them.

However, Tope did not explain what stern action will be taken against the striking lecturers.

Public debate on corruption suggests need for change: Amartya Sen

Pune: Without referring to the Jan Lokpal movement launched by Anna Hazare, Nobel laureate and economist Amartya Sen on Tuesday said public debates on corruption in India have brought out sharply the need for changes related to accountability.

Sen was in the city on Tuesday for the inaugural function of the 94th annual conference of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University. He added that these changes should be sensibly pursued to strengthen the functioning of democratic India.

Making a comparison with China, Sen said it would be hard to deny that there is a big contrast between what India has already been able to achieve in terms of democratic governance and what many countries, including China, have accomplished.He said interest in social and political participation seemed to stretch even to the poorest parts of the Indian population. Drawing a contrast with China on capital punishment, he said, China executes more people in a week, in a great many weeks, than India has since independence in 1947.
Sen slammed critics of the food security bill tabled in Parliament and said, The critics are criticising the bill over the issue of unaffordability of providing subsidised food to the Indian poor when India has quite a large ratio of undernourished children than any other country.

The food security bill will cost the Union government additional subsidy of Rs27,000 crore but the critics feel it is unaffordable. However, according to the finance ministry report, the exemption of import duty on diamond and gold from custom duties cost Rs50,000 crore in a year.

So the idea that India has no public money to feed even the most food deprived people in the world is a figment of imagination.

Deputy chairman of the planning commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, IEA president Sukhdeo Thorat, IEA secretary Anil Kumar Thakur, state minister and chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth University Patangrao Kadam and vice chancellor Shivajirao Kadam were present for the inaugural function.

Ahluwalia in his speech said the recent performance of the Indian economy was good, but there was no guarantee that it will remain the same in the future. Subsidies like those given in the energy sector were very high and there was a need for reduction in dysfunctional subsidies excluding food.

Vice-chancellors to meet in Pune, submit report to HRD ministry

More than 250 vice chancellors will come together to discuss governance in higher education over the weekend at the Bharati Vidyapeeth University in Pune. The recommendations of the All India Vice-Chancellors Conference and The 85th Annual Meeting of the Association of Indian Universities will be given to the Human Resource and Development (HRD) ministry.

The conference, scheduled from November 12 to 14, will address various aspects such as the Foreign Education Bill, autonomy and public-private partnership in higher education. With the HRD ministry reforming education in the country, it is an appropriate time to discuss governance in higher education. We will submit our recommendation report to the ministry, said MD Tiwari, president, Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

The conference is being organised by the University Grants Commission, AIU and the Bharti Vidyapeeth. Apart from vice chancellors, 30 representatives from foreign universities will also be part of the discussion. There will be nine sessions where invited speakers will give their presentations followed by discussions. The foreign participants will give their presentations on experience and experiments in higher education in their respective countries.
Prithviraj Chavan, minister for science and technology, will inaugurate the conference.

Scams have dented the image of judiciary

Pune The image of the judiciary has taken a hit with allegations against judicial officers. Earlier, nobody had to guts to point fingers at the judiciary, now it is done openly. Now, people are raising questions on the credibility of judges. Scams like the provident fund scam in Uttar Pradesh in which some members of the higher judiciary had been named or bribery charge against a sitting judge of Punjab and Haryana High court, a charge from which the Judge was later acquitted, has raised various questions in the minds of the people. said Suraj Narain Prasad Sinha, Chairman, Bar Council of India, while speaking to The Indian Express, he was in the city as part of a UGC delegation visiting Bharati Vidyapeeth Universitys New Law College Sinha said, Some years ago, the judiciary said that they were not bound to give information under the rules of Right to Information Act (RTI). That time I had opposed this stand taken by the judiciary. Now, Judges are voluntarily making disclosure of their assets.

Sinha said that the standard of the judicial officers has gone down in the past few years. The reason for this is the best and brightest students do not join the bar anymore, instead they hunt for jobs corporate and Law firms. At this rate the situation would be worrying a few years down the line.

Even now, the standard of the judicial appointments is not what it used to be earlier. He said for a few years after joining the bar, the lawyers assist seniors and are paid so less that they can barely meet their personal expenses, this is the reason why many students head for the cushy jobs in law firms. The next biggest problem facing the judiciary is shortage of Judges. There are 750 vacancies for Judges in the higher judiciary and a vacancy for 15,000 judges in the lower and moufussil courts. This is responsible for increase in the pendency of cases. So, many people rot in jail for as long as 10 years as his appeal is not heard, in effect denying justice to them.

The pay structure for teachers in law colleges all over the country is abysmal, which is a deterrent for many lawyers who have a passion and aptitude for teaching to take up a career in teaching, he said
Sinha said from the year 2009, the Bar Council of India directed all the law colleges in the country to set up legal aid clinics. So, law students could learn the value of empathizing with lakhs of poor litigants who cannot afford the fees charges by lawyers.
