Sant Gadge Baba Amravati Universityor SGBAU Amravati is a state university, established in 1983 under the UGC Act. The University is located in an extended area of 470 acres, enjoying authority over the districts of Amravati, Buldhana, Akola, Yavatmal and Washim. The university is also an associate member of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London (UK). The university has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University is situated at Amravati in Maharashtra.It was set up in the year 1983 and was named after great saint Sant Gadge Baba .It is also known as Amaravati University.The University caters the educatioal needs of 5 districts - Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal and Washim.The University has been recognised by the University Grant Commission. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University was selected as the member of Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The University is also an associate member of Association of Common wealth Universities, London. The Amaravti University has total 10 faculties which comprise of arts, commerce, science, medicine, ayurveda, education, social sciences, law, home science, engineering and technology. The University has diverse facilities to offer post-graduate and advanced education in biotechnology, business management, computer, and chemical-technology. University values research as evidence that imparting courses are supported by the strong foundation of modern knowledge and advanced techniques.
History
Established in 1983, the University has got good growth in the short period of two decades. It has contributed in many ways for economic, social and cultural upliftment of the society by offering quality education. Education for Salvation of Soul is the Motto of this University. Amravati University was established on May 1, 1983 through partitioning of University of Nagpur.
The university campus is spread over an area of 225 hectares, and the university is home to 20 post-graduate departments offering 25 courses in different disciplines. Amravati University has jurisdiction over five districts of Maharashtra: Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Washim.
Vision and Mission
Mission Statement : The Mission undertaken by Sant Gadege Baba Amravati University is to strive for the realisation of thegoals beautifully spelt out by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru when he says that, "a university stands for humanism, for tolerance, for the adventure of ideas & for its search of truth." It stands for onward march of human race for still higher objectives and to this end create centres of excellence within its ambit in all spheres of life for the growth of DNYAN and VIDNYAN and to create a culture conducive to the realisation of a just and fair society.
Educational Streams
The university offers a long list of courses in various disciplines. Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Master, PhD programs in different fields are awarded at University of Amravati. Apart from conventional courses, it also offers innovative programs. A candidate who fulfills the eligibility criteria gets admission in the respective program. The university also undertakes the literacy programme, population education, environmental education, technology transfer, continuing education and extension services. It offers both conventional and career oriented professional courses.

The university has separate hostels for boys and girls. Outdoor and Indoor games, Banks, Post Office and Cafeteria, Central Library, Department Library, Book Bank and Reading Club are all available inside university campus.
