Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT) is an engineering degree college approved by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to University of Mumbai, India. Vidyalankar Institute of Technology was started in the year 1999 after having secured permission from the AICTE and University of Mumbai. It has slowly gained popularity and today attracts top talent. It caters to students who have passed the Maharashtra State Boards HSC and CET examinations and desire to take up engineering as their profession. It secured an A grade rating from the Mumbai University in 2005.
Our mission is to provide an educational environment where students can reach their full potential in their chosen discipline and become responsible citizens without compromising in ethics and a scholarly environment where the talents of both, the faculty members and students are nurtured and used to create knowledge and technology for the benefit of the society. The idea behind VIT is to help students free themselves from the traditional ways of looking at things and instead constantly question and challenge themselves, society and the world at large. We at Vidyalankar believe in what is known as learn from everything you can see, hear and feel, not restricted to books alone. So when you have a particular lesson being taught in class, its not just the subject or the chapter alone, its also knowledge being imparted to the students that will help them in their everyday life. We do not believe in bookish knowledge, or rote learning methods, but understanding a concept, and applying it effectively in any daily chore.
Objectives of the Institution
To evolve a teaching-learning process whereby students will have freedom of thought and thereby explore the various aspects of technological development.

The founder had a dazzling educational career. In 1950, he secured the top rank in the Inter Science Examination of the Pune University standing first in every subject, creating a record in Mathematics and Grand Total and winning all the Prizes and Scholarships of the University. (The 2nd rank student was behind him by as many as 70 marks i.e. by 10%). Further, the solitary scholarship of the then Govt. of Bombay State for the highest marks among all the 4 universities in the state (Mumbai, Pune, Gujarat and Karnataka) was awarded to him and was continued up to the end of his education.On the conclusion of his B.E. degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Govt. College of Engineering Pune, the Principal of his college recommended him to the leading scientist, Dr. Homi J. Bhabha through a special personal letter. Accordingly he was appointed as a research scholar in the famous T.I.F.R in 1954.In the next year (1955) he appeared for the Indian Engineering Services (IES) examination of the U.P.S.C. and secured the 1st rank in that All India Competitive Exam too. Consequently he joined the I.R.S.E. in 1957.
However, his academic mind did not find satisfaction in that administrative work and in just a couple of years, he decided to quit that coveted Class I Gazetted Service in favour of an academic career. Ultimately, in 1959, he did take the highly unconventional decision of walking out of the secure and prestigious Class I officers service to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to the pursuit of academics. He started by teaching his first batch of students in a rented school classroom at Dadar. That was the modest beginning of Vidyalankar. Thus the basic objective of starting an academic institution was to satisfy the inner urge of guiding eager young minds of engineering students with a missionary zeal and imbibing in the receptive minds of the students nobler values of life, thereby enhancing their worthiness.With the founders vision and his dedicated efforts Vidyalankar has grown steadily. On behalf of Vidyalankar Dnyanpeeth Trust it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Institutes portal. We believe that in todays era of stiff global competition, success can only be achieved if one makes the right kind of endeavour at the right time and in the right direction. Hence we cater to two major evolving disciplines in our Institute: Engineering and Management: which continuously reinvent themselves to create solutions to dynamic problems of todays market. Vidyalankar Institute of technology is a place where learning is fun and students are groomed to be global citizens. There are ample opportunities for innovative ideas from students as well as staff which focus on their holistic development. We have excellent infrastructural facilities for both academic and co curricular activities and a team of qualified and committed faculty. Regular co curricular, extra curricular activities, initiation of the NSS cell and a set of unique activities like the Friday Paathshala have all enabled us to create an enlivening atmosphere in the campus. Participation is these activities is intended to take hone the students technical skills, professional approach to work, and soft skills like communication, inter personal skills and time management.

Planet 3 Studios is a young, internationally award winning practice and it represents the vanguard of future-forward design in India. Founded and led by Kalhan Mattoo and Santha Gour Mattoo, the studio has evolved as a multidisciplinary practice with a rapidly growing eclectic portfolio of projects comprising institutional buildings, mixed use developments, high rise buildings, adaptive-reuse projects, housing complexes, colleges, schools, training centers, business process outsourcing facilities, corporate offices, banks, malls, retail outlets, resorts, spas, hotels, restaurants, lounges, nightclubs, furniture and even industrial products.Faculty and students have free Wi-fi and internet connectivity.

The Proposed Land Use Pattern
The fundamental task of campus planning is to maintain highly functional campus facilities which support the Institutes educational and operational programs while maintaining a healthy and attractive environment for the people who study and work at Vidyalankar. Although it is impossible to anticipate long-range changes in college curriculum and enrolment, the Institute has developed a Land use Plan to manage and develop the campus to best serve operational and community needs with as much long-range vision as possible.

A schematic view of the Institute campus is shown below. 12 m internal road divides campus into two zones. On the left side, is the Institute building (19,000 sqm). The campus has a big play ground suitable for holding outdoor games. The Campus has enough free space to house additional construction like a separate building for the Bio-Technology department of the Institute, Staff Quarters, hostel (studio apartment) for students and a sport complex with swimming pool facility.
Facilities at the Campus
The campus offers students a vibrant and attractive setting for their studies. Facilities on the campus include Computer Centre, Library, Student Union, Food court, Gift shop, Bank, Bus links to other parts of Mumbai and a lush green playground. It is also planned to have a full fledged Sports centre with a swimming pool. The Institute has hostel facilities at its Nerul, Navi Mumbai campus.
The Institute is located in central Mumbai and is well connected by road and rail. Hence students have easy access to everything they need including hospitals, shopping malls, movie theatres, sport centres etc.
The Institute recognizes the importance of landscaping and is aware that it is the landscape and not the buildings, which on the mature campus, creates visual impact and continuity. The landscape creates vistas and provides delight. The Institute has appointed a Landscape architect. He has been briefed to preserve most (if not all) of the wooded areas.
Where is VIT ?
The location of our college was placed at a top priority in order to make travel simpler and easier not only for the students but even for the teachers.
The Vidyalankar Campus is spread over a sprawling area of 11 acres at Wadala. Vidyalankar Campus is located at the heart of city, making travel to and from the college very easily accessible by any of the two public transport means. i.e. Either by BUS or by Train. It is well connected by them from all parts of the city. It is a self-contained educational campus with adequate security arrangements and ample parking spaces for private vehicles.
The Vidyalankar Campus is situated at Wadala (E) right in Central Mumbai, making commuting very convenient for all the students. Wadala is well connected by railway and buses. In order to know the route map to VIT for people traversing by road, please use the Get Directions application by typing in your place of residence. The Get Directions tool is situated at the bottom left corner in the side menu.
Nearest Railway Station
Our College is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Wadala Railway Station. Trains from all the two Rail Lines : Central Railway, and the Harbour Line come to Wadala making it a major junction station.
The Dadar Railway station is also very near to our college and can be reached to by 110 BUS in approximately 20 â€“ 25 minutes. The frequency of the same bus is also very good. Dadar provides a junction station for students travelling on the Western line and also to stations like Kalyan on the Central Line.(express trains)
The Share â€“ a â€“ Taxi system is a very famous way of transport at Wadala. A total of 4 people can share a taxi up to Wadala Bridge to VIT campus and vice -versa paying a nominal fare Rs. 5/- each.
Why VIT ?
Buildings are a primary source of pollution that leads to urban air quality problems, climate change, habitat destruction, and overfilled landfills.
A high performance building which is healthy; thermally, visually and acoustically comfortable; energy, material and water efficient; safe and secure; easy to maintain and operate was the solution provided by us. This involved integrating the project designing, planning, and engineering, in order to work with, not against nature i.e. to incorporate natures free services (wind, sun, thermal properties, greenhouse principles, light, etc.) to create a high quality indoor environment while circumventing as much damage to the ambient environment as possible.
We desired to look beyond the default modernist box architecture. Our building had to express the will of the Institution to progress in a progressive environment; to build a campus that best embodies its cherished values. So, monumental verticality was avoided and instead we decided to experiment with horizontal urbanism. Our main idea was to have an educational village built within an industrial container. This literal minded village was planned to have groupings of similar requirements in clearly definable structures with a main street as the central organizing device that would become a hospitable site for spontaneous student interactions. We believe that this plan of open public spaces, enclosed semi public places and private areas encourages communal learning and awakens a sense of cultural and intellectual growth.
We are of the opinion that a powerful design can affect human psyche and duly contribute to building a great Institution.
Vidyalankar provides housing to the Out-station students providing them all the required amenities. The Vidyalankar Gurkul, a hostel for boys and girls at Nerul, is been run by the Vidyalankar Dyanapeeth Trust since June 1996. A total of 131 students (both boys and girls) reside here. A few of the students are from the western suburbs, of Mumbai and while others come from different states of India. It has a residential setup to give the students a feel of home with a congenial environment. The Vidyalankar Gurkul is a Home away from Home
Every educational institution thrives to ensure that a student procures overall development when he passes out from the institution. Academics and personality development go hand in hand. Development of both these qualities is essential for any student. VIT ensures that every student, who enrols into the VIT family passes out as an overall efficient engineer. VITs student activities sees to it that along with the social development of a student with the help of Friday Paatshala, the moral development is also achieved by the VIT NSS Committee, which indulges in social service activities for the local community.
Every institute derives its strength from the books that it houses and there is no better place in the world to house books than a place known as Library. The only true equalisers in the world are books; the only treasure-house open to all comers is a library; the only wealth which will not decay is knowledge; the only jewel which you can carry beyond the grave is wisdom.

Any technical activity would be incomplete without proper reference work and analysis. Keeping this in mind VIT has developed a Central Library with more than 450 sq m built up space and is stocked with relevant books which is approximately about 17,211 non-books (CDs) and about 67 National and International Journals.
A separate Reading hall is created for general reading and an Open Access Reference section is provided for more serious work. Provision of Multi Media section and high speed Internet browsing is also available for instant access to the internet. Also, Classics and fiction books are available for light reading along with books on Art of living and Self improvement.
VIT has a total of 22 classrooms which are fully air-conditioned.VIT has ensured that all the classrooms are very spacious so as to make the classroom comfortable for all the students in the class. Cleanliness of all the classrooms has been given a top priority, wherein the college authority ensures that each and every classroom is cleaned everyday after the college hours. After every lecture, they also ensures that the blackboard is cleaned before the arrival of the next professor. Also each classroom has an over-head projector which is used by the professors and the students during presentation lectures and classroom seminars.
Mumbai is a place of distances and a good cafeteria is a necessity. Vidyalankar has two very good cafeterias with adequate space that offers food items to cater to different tastes. We house a Mini Cafeteria wherein the students can refresh themselves during the short breaks. We also have the Main Cafeteria wherein the students are provided with proper meals during the lunch times at a very nominal price. Food items are moderately priced and utmost care is taken to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
VIT aims at providing organizations with engineers who are an appropriate fit for the organizations needs. We always endeavour to build such capabilities among the students in a systematic manner. The training and placement division lead by a senior and experienced person, has a focused approach to prepare students right from the second year of his/her curriculum. The preparation process addresses such areas as building relationship and projecting a personality that is appropriate to a young engineering graduate taking an assignment in an organization. We address two different aspects of students capability. Experienced teaching staff takes care of the technological abilities to be able to recall knowledge gained during academics for application at work place and secondly the soft skills required which now a days plays an important role in the industry. We also have facilities within college premises for conducting campus interviews and these include those for presentation, conducting aptitude tests, group discussions and interviews.
Training and Placement division aims at specifically developing these abilities through planned training for the students. The institute looks forward to conducting such activities by the help of selected internal and external faculties. This training will include personality development, communication skills, and extensive exercises to inculcate analytical abilities empowering students to interpret data faster. We have seen a lot of progresses in terms of more number of students being absorbed by various prestigious companies over the years, as also more and more esteemed companies have approached us for students time and again.
