University ProfileBeing established in the year of 1968 originally as an affiliated college namely Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT), ours was granted autonomy first in Gujarat in 1991, then in the year of 2000 it earned a status of Deemed University by Govt. of India, in recognition of its commendable standards in Academia. In April 2005, the Government of Gujarat declared this Institution as a UniversityThis University offers manifold undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Engineering & Management; besides providing a scope for doctoral studies. The university also conducts the bachelor level degree courses in Dental Science, Pharmacy & Commerce.
Here, the entire academic process is certified for the registration of ISO 9001:2000. It is noteworthy that its Faculty of Technology is the only grant-in-aid institution in the state to receive World Bank Assistance of Rs.25 crores. In recent the NBA-AICTE has granted the Accreditation to the B.E. courses of the University. A five year joint B.E.+M.S. programme has been started with the University with the University of IOWA,USA . As per an another MoU with KHS Germany; the final semester engineering students undertake their four months long Industry Project at Germany.
Besides formal education, the University also conducts the continuing education programmes not simply for the professionals but also for the under-privileged sections of society. Every year a month long programme on Computer Awareness is conducted for rural women of this region. It is appreciable that the University organises the blood donation camp in every semester, & the highest numbers of blood bottles are contributed by our students to the Red Cross Society in the region.
The R&D centre of the University has developed a Portrait Building System which is successfully used at every District Police Head Quarters in the Country to arrest criminals. It was first field tested in Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case by National Crime Record Bureau. Currently also a centre for research in Nano Sciences & Surface Engineering is established.
Here the teaching & examination work are governed as per the preplanned annual calendar; & hence it becomes possible to hold the convocation programme on 9th May every year just after fifteen days to the final semester exam.
All the technology students undertake the full time Industry based project training in their final semester of the course which enables them for employment through campus interview even before course completion.
The syllabus is reviewed & updated as per the latest trends in the field. Yoga-Meditation & Self Development are taught as integral part of the curriculum. The academic environment at the University is totally free from ragging & drugs, even tobacco in any form is also banned.
This is not only a place of education but also a place for developing personal character & strong bonds of value; & hence responsible citizens of the nation.
IntroductionDharamsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT) is the lone Technical University standing in the city of Nadiad in Gujarat state in Western India. Established in 1968 under the close supervision and guidance of Lt. Shri Dharmsinh Desai - MP from Kaira Dist, DDIT had high-held commitments to provide top quality engineering and technical education to young aspiring professionals in the state of Gujarat. Initially DDIT offered only Chemical engineering courses, but over the years, more and more courses have been added to the list of DDIT offerings. Today, the University is looked upon as the most premier Institutes for engineering and technology, at least in the western parts of the country.
Initially, DDIT was affiliated to Gujarat University. In 1991, the Institute was given an independent status; later in 2000, it earned the label of a Deemed University, and was finally converted into a State University in April 2005.

BRIEF PROFILE OF DR. N.D. DESAIDr. Narendra D. Desai is the Chairman of APAR group, which has annual turnover exceeding US$ 340 million (Rs. 1500 crores). He is a Technocrat with Honours Degree (Elect.Engg.) from the University of London and Masters and Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania, USA. He has experience having run various industries over the past 40 years.
Currently, APAR group is involved in the manufacture and exports of Conductors, Specialty Oils, Polymers and Software services and has offices all over the globe. He had been the Founder-Chairman and 50% shareholder of GE Apar Lighting India Ltd., a joint venture with General Electric USA, now GE Lighting India Ltd.
Dr. Desai has been a prominent industry leader and was the past President of ELCOMA (Electrical Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association), AMPS (Association of Manufacturers of Petroleum Specialties) and many other associations. He plays an active role in various social and educational organizations.
He is the Managing Trustee of Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad (Gujarat), which specializes in Engineering studies, and also has an MBA Program, under the guidance of IIM, Ahmedabad. AdmissionsBachelor of Engineering (B. Tech)
Admission to B.Tech programmes is based on Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (HSCE-Science stream) score and is governed centrally for all engineering institutes of the state. Eligibility conditions are as per Government of Gujarat rules. The details of admission rules and procedure along with application form are usually available immediately after HSCE result. Certain seats for admission to first year of U.G. are earmarked for Government of India nominees. Seats are available in grant-in aid as well as self-finance category.
Master of Engineering (M. Tech)
Admissions to M. Tech courses are based on merit obtained in the written examination conducted by the Institute. Application for admission is invited through advertisements in leading newspapers in May/June every year. B.E/B.Tech /equivalent with 55% (50% for SC/ST) or equivalent grade in appropriate/respective branch. Seats are also available for sponsored candidates from Industry/academic and research Institutes.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Based on the academic record and performance in the interview/test, the guide will recommend the name of the candidate to the Institute for admission to the PhD programme. Candidates whose selection is approved by the Vice Chancellor will be admitted to the programme. Eligibility for PhD admissions is as under. (a) PhD in Engineering:
Master?s degree in Engineering/Technology in a discipline related to the research proposal with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 out of 10) or equivalent from a recognized university. Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic background in a discipline related to the research proposal will also considered for direct admission to PhD in Engineering provided if the candidate is having 2 years of experience as a full time teacher in a recognized engineering college/polytechnic or of R&D work in a related discipline in a professional organization and also to have outstanding and well recognized research work in the related discipline.
(b) PhD in Applied Science:
Masters degree in Physical/Social Science related with the research proposal with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 out of 10) or equivalent from a recognized university/Institute; or eligible for lecturers appointment as per UGC rule.
(c) PhD in Management:
Postgraduate (full-time) degree or diploma in Management with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5 out of 10) or equivalent from a university/Institute recognized by UGC/AICTE.
Bachelor of Computer Applications (B. C. A)
Candidate for admission to the Bachelor of Computer Application course must have passed H.S.C. Examination with at least 45% (40 for reserved category) marks excluding practicals. The candidate must have passed the HSC examination with English and any one of the following subjects under General or Science stream. i.e. Mathematics or Statistics or Business mathematics or Accountancy/Elements of accounting or Accountancy & book keeping. The admission is made at Institute level based on the marks obtained in HSC examination. All the seats are available under self-financed category. Admission to management quota under self-financed category is done as per the prevailing norms
Master of Computer Applications (M. C. A)
M.C.A. admission is based on centralized entrance test conducted at state level. Degree in science or commerce or management or engineering under (10+2+3) pattern or equivalent with at least second-class having obtained not less than 50% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST) at aggregate of a recognized University is the minimum eligibility for admissions. The candidate must have studied mathematics or statistics or business mathematics as one of the subject at HSCE level. Seats are available in grant-in aid as well as self-finance category. Admission to management quota under self-financed category is done as per the prevailing norms.

AlumniThe DDU Alumni Association, formerly, DDIT Alumni Association (DDITAA) was established in August, 1993, with its headquarter at the DDU and chapters at Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar and Vadodara. It has membership strength of about 4310. The association is proud of its members, as most of them have excelled in their respective fields. Many of them have won coveted awards. More than 1000 members are settled abroad. The association has been promoting interaction among industries, ex-students and the university to enhance the cause of technical education. DDUAA has organized and conducted more than 125 seminars, lectures and workshops at various places like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ankleshwar and Nadiad.
The main objectives of the association are :
1. To establish and maintain contact among past students, present students and the teaching staff of DDU.
2. To raise and maintain high standards of education by interaction & commerce.
3. To establish interaction with industry for the benefit of students.

DDU Alumni Association was established in the year 1993 under the strong and dynamic leadership of Dr.H.M.Desai as the President, with some broad and concrete objectives. These are the objectives which advocate clearly the neat and clean intentions behind the creation of DDUAA. Over the years the Association has made good progress at several fronts under the stewardship of Dr.H.M.Desai, our president.
DDU Alumni Association is an active organization engaged in promoting excellence in education through various schemes like :

7. A lecture on Energy Audit was delivered by Shri Vipul Shah consultant alumni of DDU.
8. A lecture on catalysis and develop of catalyst was delivered by Dr.Anand Halgeri, Sr.Manager (R & D) IPCL-Baroda.
These activities helped the association to project its image in the industrial world. Apart from this, the association is also engaged actively in students' benefit and cultural activities too. a team of students and faculty from University of IOWA, USA with which DDU have a MOU for academic co-operation in several areas. The association hosted a dinner in honors of the visiting team in Hotel Angethi. Every time new year gathering was organized for local members on 26th January, after the Flag hosting ceremony. After having very good experience from the trip to Kevadia Colony the LAC organized another trip to Divadia Colony, the site of Kadana Dem with family.
Merit-cum-Means Scholarships :
As a part of programmes to achieve the objectives, DDUAA is giving merit cum means scholarships to the deserving students. It is decided to establish "DDU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund" so as to make the scheme self sustaining through donation from individuals and organizations. We are happy to announce that ex-students of DDU, number of individuals and organizations have extended tremendous positive response for the generous donation to award "Merit Cum Means Scholarship' to deserving students and we expect many more to follow the same. Travel grant to the students :
Travel assistance to the students for participating in any academic activity any where in India is given by the association to encourage and motivate the students. A large numbers of students are taking advantage of this scheme and a total sum of Rs. 25,000/- has been spent for such student activities.

This is vital issue where the assistance from the members of DDUAA is very much solicited. We are happy to inform that for the industrial training a great deal of help is received from Alumni members.sociation also assists the University for the campus recruitment.
At this stage we must thank our President; Dr.H.M.Desai, who has continuously encouraged us and guided us in all our activities. Under his excellent leadership association has got substantial financial strength too. Management of the University has provided the basics and essential infrastructural facilities.
Amid scams and scandals, Sibal wants medicine to cure corruptionNadiad-Ahmedabad: Speaking as the chief guest during the convocation ceremony of Dharamsinh Desai University (DDU), Nadiad, on Tuesday HRD and telecom minister, Kapil Sibal, called for the urgent need to restructure the entire education system.
Addressing the graduating students, Kapil Sibal expressed his concern towards the growing greed and corruption in the country and asked the education fraternity to incorporate the value of hard work. India has become a nation of holidays. The country needs hard workers, who enjoy work, rather than holidays, said Sibal.
Stressing on the need to restructure the current education system, he said that it is high time we addressed education quality and faculty accountability. Its time for students to ask questions. Its also time to change how we teach and learn. In reply to union minister for mines and minerals Dinsha Patels request for permission to open a medical college in Nadiad, Sibal, in a shot at the epidemic of corruption, said, We now need medical colleges which can cure corruption in the country.
Declaring the convocation open, Vice-chancellor of DDU, Dr Harshad M Desai spoke about the progress made by the university. Managing trustee of the Dharamsinh Desai Foundation, Dr ND Desai, presided over the function which saw 1445 students obtain their degrees. About 586 students were conferred with BEs, 68 with MTech, 50 with MBA, 141 with BCA, 192 with BBA, 138 with BCom, 50 with MCom degrees among others.
