JNTU website can be hacked easily

Andhra Hackers, a body of ethical hackers, said that JNTUs websites of Kakinada and Hyderabad can be hacked in two minutes and the entire database can be removed or changed.

Stating that they had intimated JNTU authorities regarding the risk and that the latter have not responded, members of Andhra Hackers say that the universitys web page contents and marks can be changed.

People can log on as the principal and any information regarding courses and joining dates can be removed or edited.

Sai Satish, an ethical hacker and active member of Andhra Hackers, says, I was just checking some websites and found that few like those of Anna University and JNTU were weak, but Anna University has better security than JNTU.

JNTUs Kakinada and Hyderabad sites can be hacked into by anyone and can be taken over if they do not act immediately. I have sent them an example and warned them about this, but we havent got any response yet. We said we will do it for free; we just want the students and the universitys information to be safe.

Universities around the world have been at the receiving end of hacking for quite some time. In September 2011, Harvard Universitys homepage was hacked and visitors to the site were greeted with the message Syrian Electronic Army Were Here.

A year back the web portal of Christ University could not be accessed for a few days. In July, the Pakistani Universitys websites were hacked by Indian students with the message: Stop Terrorism Else Each and Every Pakistani Website will be hacked.

Later, in August, the website of an Italian University was hacked and a lot of data was stolen.

When contacted. Prof. B. Prabhakara Rao, Director of Evaluation in JNTU, Kakinada says, Yes, we were informed about our websites vulnerability. I have informed the higher authorities regarding the same. We are moving carefully because some random person calling us and informing that our website is weak is hard to believe.

However, he had said he would not charge anything, so we are planning to arrange a meeting with the technicians of our website and the person from Andhra Hackers.

University out of which this college is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the examinations in 165 Colleges in this Zone in the capacity of a Nodal Centre. Under this activity, the college has to interact with these colleges to see that the end-semester examinations in all these colleges are conducted in a fair manner, the answer scripts are valued in different spot centers and marks lists are sent to the university to facilitate the processing and announcement of Results. This shows the role of the college as a lead institution.

The alumni association of the college has got a number of its units spread all over the country and even abroad. These units are functioning independently and organizing activities for themselves. Some of the prominent alumni contributed monetarily and a multi-utility building has come up on the campus from these funds which is housing the Training & Placement office, an educational T.V. programmes receiving centre (MANA TV) and a few unfurnished guest rooms. One of the alumni has instituted an annual award for best teacher as recognized by the students. Another alumnus instituted another award for the best outgoing student from each branch of engineering. An annual get-together is also arranged on the campus by the local alumni association on the first Sunday of every calendar year.

There is an auditorium with an area of about 500 sq.m. attached with an open air theatre for organizing the functions with a gathering of 500. A 60 seated bus is available and used for educational tours and technical visits.

4. Our work will result in benefits to the eight districts and India
5. There could be some benefit to the United States

As a consul-general you are interested in protecting the interests of US citizens temporarily or permanently resident in India and issuing visas to us. However, the principal role of yours lies traditionally in promoting trade?assisting companies to invest and to import and export goods and services both inwardly and outwardly. And although it is never admitted publicly, you also gather intelligence information.

Dear Sir on behalf of our great University I request you help us by giving an edge over others in matters of concern to both the countries for the exchange of intellectual capital, thereby helping our mission of transforming this region as a wealthy region in the country if not the world.
