Alleviating human suffering has been a part of dedicated servicesof Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams to the man kind. To provide the most advanced medical technology to the needy, the T.T.D. has launched a monument, a blessing from the Lord by opening Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Scinces, a sophisticated super speciality hospital at Tirupati. SVIMS was conceived in the year 1986 on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi and the foundation stone was laid on 18.4.86 by Late Sri.N.T.Rama Rao, the Hon ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the world famous piligrim town Tirupati. It was established with a view to providing Super Speciality facilities with nominal cost to the poor.

The hospital started functioning from 26.2.93. by an Act of A.P. State Legislature. This Institute became a University in 1995. With in a short time of establishment, Intially it functioned under the Directorship of Dr.Satyanarayana and under the Chairmanship of Dr.Kakarla Subba Rao, afterwards Dr.K.V.Naidu improved the hospital as second Director successfully for three years, afterwards Dr.C.Surya Prakasa Rao as third Director successfully for three years. The present Director is Dr.G.Subrmanyam. The healing touch of SVIMS has covered most of Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring states. The major objectives of SVIMS includes service, training and education in advanced medical sciences and technology. Latest technology in diagnostic wing and total computer automation of patient care has been implimented in this institution for the first time in our Country. The computer centre is equiped with medical literature analysis and retrieval system on line(MEDLINE) to get the information available from standard medical journals in the entire world. SVIMS also introduced "MEDLARS" awareness programme, which is a boon for all the students and medical personnel. Both inpatients and outpatients have increased by 75% to 100% in recent years.

The following departments are rendering their services for the public: Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Genito Urinary Surgery, Endocrinolgy, Nuclear Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Oncology, Casuality, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Radiology, Transfusion Medicine, Physiotherapy and Dietetics. The Department of Cardiology possessess the state-of-the art biomedical equipment and a set of dedicated doctors and paramedical staff to provide a high quality treatment to its patients. The entire spectrum of surgical diseases of Chest are being attended to this institution. This includes Complex Cardiac Surgery, Simple Cardiac Surgery all forms of Thoracic Surgery, Chest trauma and all forms of Thoracic Endoscopies. The post oprative management alway received consultants level care. In Cardiac Surgery - Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery, all forms of valve surgery and all forms of complex congenital heart surgery in the very early months of life are being under taken. Many of the cases we have taken up are redo operations and are very sickones some times denied of surgery in peer institutions. DONATIONS

Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences is a tertiary care referral centre maintained by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams,Tirupati with the blessings of Lord Venkateswara. It is located at the foothills of Tirumala.

This modern superspeciality hospital was stared in the year 1993 with 300 bed strength. It has a sprawling campus of 55 acres and has state of art equipment to undertake Diagnostic and Therapeutic care to the down-trodden people of Rayalaseema region.

SVIMS has shown phenomenal growth in serving the patients and providing efficient medical care to the people of this region with affordable cost. Patients below poverty line are given treatment with maximum concession. 'Pranadana Scheme' (Life Saving) started by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust is a boon for poor patients to get 100% free treatment to the major surgeries of heart, kidney, brain etc., diseases.

In addition, the institute offers community services in the form of rural medical camps, free Epilepsy cams, free Diabetic clinics for children. The institute has conducted more than 100 medical camps in rural areas.

SVIMS has Adopted a colony of SC & ST population by name Krishnapuram village of Renigunta Mandal, Chittoor District. About 300 people of this village were examined and necessary people were referred to SVIMS for further investigations.

Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences has attained the status of University by Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Act No.12 of 1995. It has been recognized by the University Grants Commission in 2002. The Medical Council of India has permitted to start Super speciality courses (D.M./M.Ch.) in the branches of Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery and broad speciality courses (M.D.) in Anaesthesiology and Microbiology.

SVIMS University has started B.Sc. Nursing programme in the year 1996 with present intake of 50 students and M.Sc (Nursing) Programme in the year 2003 with intake of 10 students in four specialities with the recognistion of Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. It has started B.P.T. Course in the year 1998 with an intake of 40 students per year and M.P.T. Course in the year 2003 with an intake of 10 students per year in four specialities with due recognition of Indian Association of Physiotherapy (IAP). SVIMS also running Post Graduate Diploma in various paramedical courses.

SVIMS started Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics with M.Sc. programme. The institute also started M.Sc. courses in Medical Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry & Microbiology, Ph.D. courses and Post Doctoral courses.

Medical graduates wtih MBBS qualification are required to work as Junior residents in the institute. Number of doctors in Andhra Pradesh state are less when compared to the most of the countries in the world or even adjoining states. It is estimated that only 45 medical graduates are present for one lakh population. Hence, it is essential to start a Medical College to serve the people by rendering medical aid.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has already permitted to establish Sri Padmavathi Medical College of SVIMS near Renigunta. The foundation stone for the Medical College & General Hospital was laid down in October, 2005 by Sri Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Chiarman of SVIMS.

At present the institute is partially getting financial support from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams which is not sufficient for full fledged services provided by this institution.

To establish Medical college & General Hospital, funds have to be generated through donations from philanthropic organizations. Hence, generours donations are requested from the philanthropist organisations and donors to provide financial assistance to our non-profit making institute. Total cost of the expenditure for construction of the Medical college, General Hospital, Hostels and other buildings will be around Rs.100 crores.
