Mizoram to have 4 new polytechnic institutes

According to Mizoram Education Minister Lalsawta, the Central Government had recently given the green signal to Mizoram for setting up four new polytechnic institutes in the State. Following this development, the State Government will set up the institutes at Champhai, Kolasib, Lawngtlai and Mamit. An National Institute of Technology (NIT) would also be set up in the State very shortly..

Mizoram has already two polytechnic institutes – one at Lunglei and the other in Aizawl. Some Singapore-based scientists and researchers are planning to set up a Rajiv Gandhi University in Mizoram which will greatly boost education in the State, the EducationMinister also disclosed.

Lalsawta also informed the media that days are not far away when Mizoram would be called a hub of education in India if the Congress Ministrys projects and programmes are successfully carried out.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram School Education department is in deep financial crisis. School Education Minister Lalsawta revealed that the Education Department is spending over Rs 3 crore additionally for 337 provincialised schools, adhoc aided and lump sum aided schools.

Various departments in the State Government are facing financial crisis but the fund crunch in the Education Department is worst due to upgradation of 337 schools by the erstwhile Mizo National Front Government, alleged Lalsawta.
