National Law University to introduce clinical course on legal services

National Law University, Delhi (NLUD), is going to introduce a clinical course on legal services and paralegal advocacy as a compulsory subject in the 9th semester of their BA LLB (Honours) programme from this academic session in August 2012.
According to Srikrishna Deva Rao, professor of law and registrar, NLUD, legal education in India is currently facing challenges about the goals, mission and its social relevance. In response, clinical legal education has emerged as a new method of learning to introduce issues on social justice to students and to prepare them as public interest lawyers.

National Law University Dwarka wins moot court competition

National Law University, Dwarka won the 8th K K Luthra memorial international moot court competition held at the India Habitat Centre. Indian Law Society, Pune was the runner-up. The Best speaker team of the competition was the George Washington University Law School,
USA.

This year, the issue was corporate criminal liability. The final rounds on Sunday were judged by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Manmohan Singh of the Delhi high court.

Justice T S Thakur of the Supreme Court was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. This is the only criminal law moot court competition held at the international level.

Since 2005, the Campus Law Centre has been organising the competition each year in the memory of late KK Luthra, senior advocate and a leading criminal lawyer. Sixty-two 62 took part in the competition, including Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge(UK) Northumbria University (UK) the George Washington University Law School (USA) and the Pakistan Law College (Lahore, Pakistan).

Eligibility: Candidate should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination with 50% marks. The candidates appearing in Class 12 examination in March-April, 2012 can also apply. The candidates age should be below 21 years as on July 1, 2012
