Surya College owner Rajiv Goyal bail rejected in Builder Suicide caseDistrict Courts, Panchkula, on Wednesday, rejected the anticipatory bail of Rajeev Goyal, who has been facing police investigations in the suicide of a building contractor Ramesh Gupta. On the complaint of Shiv Gupta, brother of Ramesh Gupta, the police had registered a case against Rajiv Goyal, who runs Surya College, and Rajhans Thukral, Anil Bansal and Ashok Kondal under Section 306 (abettment of suicide) of IPC. Punjab police had recovered the body of Ramesh Gupta, a resident of Sector 10, from a canal in Rajpura on July 12. He was missing from his house since July 9. As per the family members, Gupta was under stress due to non-payment of money to the tune of Rs 2 crore by Surya College. Goyal has also been facing cases of non-payment of money of other contractors in Punjab.
Co-accused in builder suicide case denied bail
After rejecting the anticipatory bail application of Rajiv Goyal, chairman & MD of the Surya Group of Institutes, Rajpura, a local court on Friday dismissed the bail application of Rajhans Thukral, the co-accused in the case pertaining to the suicide by a Panchkula-based builder, Ramesh Gupta. Additional district & sessions judge Kanchan Mahi rejected Thukral’s application after receiving the reply of the local police in which the latter maintained bail to the suspect at this stage of investigation would hamper its investigations.
On July 12 the police had filed an FIR against Goyal, Thukral, Anil Bansal and Ashok Kondal under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code for abetting the suicide. This followed recovery of the body of Ramesh Gupta, a resident of Sector 10, from a canal in Rajpura the same day. A Sector 10 resident, Shiv Kumar Gupta, had earlier alleged his brother Ramesh was depressed after Goyal did not pay him the Rs 2 crore incurred in constructing two colleges of the Surya group of institutes in Punjab. In his complaint, lodged on July 9, he had further claimed his brother had filed several complaints against Goyal to the Punjab police for recovery of his payment but to no avail.
On July 12 the cops received information about a body of a man found from a canal in Rajpura and later found it was that of Ramesh Gupta.
