Courses offered in Raksha Shakti University, Ahmedabad

The courses that will be offered at the Raksha Shakti University would be as follows:

Diploma in Police Science (DIPS):

For students who have passed the Xllth standard. It shall be a 16-18 months course. They will be suitable for being recruited as police constables, jawans of paramilitary forces, armed forces and security personnel of private security agencies.
Bachelor in Police Science:

Meant for students who have passed Std. Xllth. It shall be a 3 year degree course. It shall act as a resource pool for the recruitment of PSIs/DySPs.

Masters in Police Science:

Meant for both police and non-police officers who wish to pursue higher career oriented courses.

Masters in Philosophy in Police Science and Doctor of Philosophy for researchers:

The research papers shall be filtered back in the system, making use of it to further professionalise the police force and to make it more robust and dynamic in its functioning.
Besides, the above courses, the University shall also run short-term courses basically geared towards capacity building of in-service officers. These courses shall be:

Library
The planned library at Raksha Shakti University is spacious, airy, well lighted and would be well maintained. The library will be well stocked with number of books on various courses and topics. The issuance of books is planned to be computerized and fully automated. Also, National and International journals, periodicals and magazines would be subscribed and made available for reference. There are also plans to have a good collection of educational CDs/ DVDs and Audio/Video Cassettes as an aid to teaching-learning process.

Working Hours
Since the library is still under planning and conceptualization, the working hours have yet not been defined. There are plans to keep it open on all working days unless otherwise specified by the Library Committee/Management. It will remain closed on Sundays.

General Rules
Periodicals, Bound Volumes, Annual Reports, CDs/DVDs, Audio/Video Cassette and Newspapers are to be referred within the Library.

Students will need to check the physical condition of the book before taking the book out of the Library. Physical condition will be checked while returning of the book and if any damage found, penalty would be the discretion of the Librarian.

It would be required for students to produce their Membership/Identity Card at the time of issuing books.

No items would be allowed inside the library except for the library books.

A late fee shall be charged as a fine to the student if the book is not returned on time.

If any issued item is lost, penalty will be taken.
Students will not be allowed to use mobile phones and personal floppies, CDs and pen drives in any computer of the Library.

Introduction
Raksha Shakti University, the first varsity of the country dedicated to policing courses. The varsity will initially have 250 seats, the admission process to which will begin after class XII result is declared.

The temporary campus near New Civil Hospital will be located at the building which earlier was the Ahmedabad District (Rural) Police office (which has now shifted to Sarkhej) and also had the chamber of Director General of Police.

Rooms of the office building are being converted into classrooms. A permanent campus will come up on 300 acres in Lavad, Gandhinagar, at a cost of Rs 100 crore. In the first phase, the varsity will begin with two courses, Diploma in Basic Policing and Bachelor of Police Service.

University director general, former Ahmedabad police commissioner of OP Mathur said, 'The syballi of the two courses are almost ready. The university will begin functioning by April-end or early May.'

State Home Secretary T S Bisht said the first batch will have a combined (both courses) strength of 250 whereas the fee will be Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per semester. Bisht is also member of university's advisory committee.

The second phase will see introduction of courses on terrorism, cyber crimes, economic offences, internal security and forensic science for police personnel and under-graduates. The university will have retired IPS officers, serving policemen, ex-Armymen, law professors and forensic expers as faculty. There are talks of affiliating police training institutes of Gujarat to this university.
