Construction of Badminton Club illegal, says Bhupinder Singh Bhullar
CM to open controversial building in BathindaBATHINDA: The move of inauguration of a controversial building, allegedly constructed on a portion of road, of Civil Line Club Bathinda by Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday has raised many eye-brows.
Though the deputy commis-sioner Bathinda and the district police chief have reportedly hinted the chief minister's office about the controver-sy surrounding the newly constructed badminton hall but as per the chief minister's Wednesday schedule, he is to inaugurate the building after lunch.
An inauguration stone in the name of the chief minister has also been in-stalled at the new building on Tuesday.
The Bathinda Civil Line Club was in the thick of a controversy after the club managing authorities started raising the badminton hall on a por-tion of road in front of the club in Oc-tober last year.
As the club authorities have not got the drawings of the building cleared by the Bathinda nagar council, the ex-ecutive officer (EO) of the council has also issued a notice to them after the municipal engineer found the build-ing constructed on a portion of road.
Though club secretary Rajiv Gupta feigned ignorance about the status of the building, some residents of the lo-cality said that no one could dare challenge the illegal construction as many influential people of the area and al-most all senior officers were members of the club.
'It is to ensure legality to the build-ing at the encroached land that the club authorities are trying to get it in-augurated by the chief minister,' told a resident of the area.
As the chief minister would be in Bathinda on Wednesday to inaugurate Transport Nagar and participate in convocation of Giani Jail Singh Engineering Col-lege, the schedule of the chief minis-ter revealed that he would be served lunch at the club and after that he would inaugurate the building.
The whole programme has been managed by a big industrialist of Pun-jab who is a senior office-bearer in the club.
While deputy commissioner Bathinda Anurag Verma was not available for comment, Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, president municipal committee told that the construction of the badminton club was illegal as it was raised on a portion of land that belongs to Public Welfare Department (Bridges and Road).
When contacted, executive officer of the nagar council Kamal Kant denied to make any comment.
The residents of the area are also annoyed with the authorities as a park situated in front of the club was al-legedly being used for parking the ve-hicles of VIP visitors at the club.
