RU rejects admission under NRI quotaJaipur: The tussle between Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and affiliated private dental colleges on the issue of admission under NRI-Management quota has triggered confusion among students of the private institutes. The university has not declared results of at least 35 students, who took admission under the NRI-Management quota and claimed their admission was irregular.
Students, however, claimed they had spent a lot of money for admission in the private dental colleges and the university’s move will only adversely affect their career. “We have already completed two years of the degree course and now the university claims our admission is against the certified norms. When we approached the university, they asked us to take admission in the first year again,” a third-year student of Jaipur Dental College told DNA.
Agitated students of the Jaipur Dental College and Mahatma Gandhi Dental College — the two private dental colleges in Jaipur, on Thursday, locked the campus gates protesting the university’s move. Students also raised slogan against the college administration and the University of Health Sciences.
Vikas Jeph, managing director, Jaipur Dental College claimed, “The university has intentionally blocked the results of the students admitted under the 15 per cent seats reserved under the NRI-Management quota. The university’s move is unprecedented.
Jaipurites will now have to shell out more for electricityJaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has given a tough time to the states city dwellers by taxing what they use the most or desire to own. And, Jaipur has been its natural victim. But, Gehlot chose to gift Jaipur some infrastructure projects to ease road congestion and offered money for institutional research and conservation of heritage structures. By exempting taxes on cinema halls and DTH services, the chief minister has offered Jaipurites a distraction - in cinema halls and television sets - from the tax net they will be brought under.
In a nutshell, electricity spending will go up for residents of the city, so will the expenses on air travel. People will have to pay 15 paisa sub-charge on electricity on consumption of 100 units. Last year the charge was 10 paise.
Buying a house or a car will require more money. Gehlot has levied 10 per cent sub-charge on taxes for all four wheelers worth more than Rs3 lakh. A 5 per cent additional tax has been levied on purchase of vehicles. The revenue generated from the taxes will be utilised to fund the Rajasthan Transport Infrastructure Fund. Automobile owners will also have to pay green cess.
The government has hiked the tax on aviation turbine fuel from 14 per cent to 20 per cent. The hike may force private airline companies to increase air fares in the future.
Gehlot announced five railway-over bridges in Jaipur. In the education sector, Gehlot allocated Rs 2 crore for Jaipur Dental College. He proposed a centre for conversing technology in Rajasthan University to motivate students who want to research in nano technology.
