As envisaged by Tagore, providing an enabling culture, to the participants to learn and grow fearlessly and aim for perfection, the Institute wishes them to inculcate values of personal excellence and concern for others thus imbibing egalitarian values which could then help the larger society build and manage ecologically responsible organisations.
It is my sincere hope that students of IIM Shillong shall bring pride to the Institute and the Country.
- Prof. Ashoke K. Dutta
The serene ambiance of IIM Shillong surrounded by pine trees, lush green lawn and the kaleidoscopic mountains in the backdrop creates an aura of stunned silence amidst nature. Within the heart of Shillong city, the IIMS campus showcases a tranquil environment where the students can concentrate in their regular activities.
The institute is currently functioning from a temporary campus in the Mayurbhanj Complex (the erstwhile summer palace of Mayurbhanj Kings). The Campus includes a main building wherein the administrative office, faculty offices, classrooms, library and conference halls are housed. Apart from the main building, the Institute also has an auditorium, guesthouse, number of small syndicate rooms (separate) and student dormitories within the campus. Faculty residences are situated just adjacent to the campus.
Work will soon commence on a 120-acre site for the permanent campus.
Class rooms are fully equipped with modern facilities to help participants in their learning process. State-of-the-art facilities include interactive board (can be connected to the server directly), amenities for presentation, video-conferencing, wireless microphone system and other equipments.
Dormitories with both single and double occupancy rooms are available separately for boys and girls within the campus. Availing dormitory facilities is compulsory for all students.
The Institute provides medical aid to all resident students. An on-duty doctor is available in the dispensary of the campus. Among other facilities, The State Bank of India ATM already benefits the campus activities.
The Institute has undertaken a process of developing a modern Learning Resource Centre with interdisciplinary focus on books, periodicals, national and international journals, working papers and dissertations. It would also cater to a number of online databases.
Information Technology Infrastructure
The Institute has augmented the initiative for an IT infrastructure to facilitate all its present and upcoming activities. Both wired and wireless network would serve as the backbone for the techno savvy faculty and students to assist in their regular work requirements.
The North Eastern Region
India s North East Region with a distinct geophysical structure and an urgent requirement for socio-economic development offers a challenging opportunity to set up an institute for pursuing higher learning. Situated in the gorgeous backdrop of hilly terrains and a persistent agricultural economy, India s North Eastern Region comprises eight states.
The states of this region lies at the frontier of the Indian Territory with considerable foreign interaction in trade, economic, cultural and political matters. Resplendent natural resources and cultural diversities call for special attention and in-depth understanding of the socio-political dynamics of the region. It is imperative to acquire knowledge about the local people to facilitate sustainable and equitable development of the region.
Located at an altitude of 1,496 meter above sea level and with a population of approximately 2,60,000 people, Shillong is the capital of one the smallest states, Meghalaya. Shillong has a well-appointed modern town facility with excellent power-supply & state-of-the-art telecommunication network.

Surrounded by verdant hills, Shillong offers a panoramic view of the graceful scenic countryside.
