Candidates jittery as state civil services dates not out yet

Jaipur: Candidates who plan to appear for the Central and state civil services seem to be in a dilemma. While the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is out with its preliminary examination scheduled for June 12, the state government's notification is still awaited.

However, the ambiguity over probable dates and pattern of the RAS Pre- Exam has only confused aspirants. The exam used to be held in the year end, has a probable date sometime in June according to the tentative calendar declared by Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) this year.

"There is no clarity about the dates or pattern of the RAS Pre-Exam. The tentative calendar declared by the RPSC has the exam scheduled for sometime in June. I have to appear for UPSC prelims on June 12. Lakhs of students like me are confused as to how to go about the state civil service exams," said Sanjeev Dudi, a research student in the Rajasthan University's department of geography. "The state government is working at snail's pace creating confusion for lakhs of aspirants," added Dudi.
It is learnt that the state government had formed a committee to suggest possible reforms in the RAS Preliminary Examination few months ago. While the committee is yet to submit its report, the RPSC awaits the government's direction for next recruitment drive. Official sources claim that RPSC's decision depends on the number of vacancies declared for various administrative posts by the state government.

"Process for the next recruitment cycle is under pipeline," said Dr PK Dashora, member, RPSC and chairman of the reforms committee on RAS.

While the students are worried about any possible overlap between the UPSC and RPSC pattern, the member said. "The calendar has only tentative dates of the preliminary exam and the final decision is reserved with the state government," added Dashora.

Official sources claim the committee is trying to synchronise the recruitment cycle with that of the UPSC leading to the revision of the examination pattern.
