This University has to cater the needs of multi-lingual population. For many decades it remained the SOLE centre of higher education in this region and it successfully met the expectations and aspirations of the people. Even today this University is the leading institution of higher learning in this part of the country in terms of territorial jurisdiction it has, composition of the population it caters to the needs of , range, dimension & quality of academic programmes/courses it offers and avenues for research it provides. At present Ranchi University has 23 post-graduate, departments, 15 constituent colleges, 24 affiliated colleges/institutions besides Academic Staff College and Adult Continuing education & Extension Department. Eight deans of faculties oversee the academic affairs in different disciplines. It has (in its rank) 1 medical collages, 1 law colleges, 4 technical institutes, 2 institutes of neuro-psychiatry and allied sciences, 3 autonomous college and 1 management institute. THE DEPARTMENT : The Department of Mathematics, Ranchi University, Ranchi is one of the best Department of Mathematics in the eastern region. It has research team of teachers with long standing experience of teaching and research. The Department regularly organizes local / national / state level seminars for students, faculty members and mathematical public to keep in touch with latest ideas in Mathematical Sciences. Courses like operation Research, Statistics and Probability, Combinatorics, Graph Theory were introduced here in early eighties, which were later on included as subjects in M.C.A. syllabus of premier institute of India. Ever since the beginning of the Department in 1960, the faculty members are actively engaged in research in the areas like Mathematical Modeling in Biology, Number Theory, Integral Transform, Special Functions, Pure and Applied Algebra, Magneto Hydrodynamics, Elasticity and Combinatorics. Students, research scholars and teachers use these materials in its calm, comforting and serene atmosphere. With the introduction of fully operational INFLIBNET facility (connected through dedicated lease line to INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmadabad) the utility of central library has increased many fold. Several thousands e-journals are thus made available which will immensely help research scholars, students and teachers. As far as extending this facility to other units is concerned this will act as a central hub. Connectivity has already been extended to Ranchi College and very soon all university departments and ASC will have this facility. Considering its importance its working hour has been extended upto 8pm. University Computer Centre The computer centre of Ranchi university was established in the year 1976 at the instance of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Centre has installed 2 Mbps Leased connectivity under the UGC INFIBNET Scheme. Various students unions have started demonstrations and protests and are organizing meetings to work out the campaign.The campaign started with members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demonstrating on the university premises on Monday to get the demands of students of Cambridge Institute of Technology (CIT) fulfilled. It was followed by the Jharkhand Students Union (JSU) meeting the chairperson of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission on Wednesday. JSU chairperson S Ali said, The Hatia byelection did slow down the campaign for students election but now we have again started working on it. We will very soon start full-fledged demonstration for students demand and will be working for the welfare of students. Another reason for the election campaign to pick up pace is the reopening of colleges last week. ABVP Secretary Gaurav said, We were not working much for the campaign as the colleges were closed. Now that the colleges are to reopen we have also started the campaign. Students unions like the All Jharkhand Students Union (Ajsu) and the Jharkhand Chhatra Vikas Morcha (JCVM) are calling meetings almost everyday to discuss the strategies for election campaign. Some of the students unions are planning to join hands with each other for the election. The Ajsu and the ABVP will be jointly campaigning in the election. Harish, a member of the Ajsu said, The candidates of the Ajsu and the ABVP jointly won four seats in the RU students union elections in 2007. So we are planning to join hands this time too. The students unions think that the results of Hatia byelection will also affect the university elections. Harish said, We are preparing ourselves for another celebration. The victory of the Ajsu in Hatia election will give positive result for us in the student union elections. Special summer session for Ranchi University lecturersRANCHI: A special summer school will be organized for the lecturers of Ranchi University from June 22 on the order of the University Grants Commission (UGC).It is a three-week course equivalent to orientation or refresher programme and will update the lecturers on their respective disciplines and general awareness also, said RU vice-chancellor LN Bhagat. The lecturers will learn about how they can be part of the development of society by discussing global warming, recession and other social issues and will also learn about general administration of university like financial and examination rules. The programme will be organized at academic staff college and will be funded by the Union human resource development department. Director of academic staff college RP Singh said, Any teacher of the university from any discipline can join the programme and get a certificate which will be helpful for them in career advancement. Minimum 50 teachers are required to start the programme. Lecturers can submit their application forms for joining the course till June 16 and they will not have to pay any fees for participation. The form is available in academic staff college or can be downloaded from the college website, Singh said. The lecturers will be trained by experts of various subjects. Singh said, We will invite scholars of various subjects from all over the country to train the lecturers. Students, parents flock to Ranchi University college countersRanchi: As the admission procedure for undergraduate courses commenced in colleges of Ranchi University, students and parents have been flocking to various college admission counters in the city.Ranchi College principal A N Ojha said, We will be deciding the cut off only after we see the marks of the students who have applied for admission. If many students do not have good marks, we will keep the cut off percentage low. Ranchi College offers undergraduate courses in science and arts and the admission forms will be available till June 20. The price of each form is Rs 150. Apart from the regular courses, the college also offers many vocational courses. Ranchi University among 50 universities in countryRANCHI: Ranchi University not just scored a place in the top 50 universities in India but it also managed to jump seven steps ahead and reached the 36th position. The survey is conducted by India Today every year. The varsity was on the 46th rank in 2011.The university also scored the third position in the top five growing universities in India and second position in the top five gainers. RU vice-chancellor LN Bhagat was excited about the achievement. It is the efforts of former vice-chancellor AA Khan that we managed to reach this position. The credit also goes to the team work of university employees. We will try harder to move ahead in the coming years, he said. Khan, a former vice-chancellor, said the university can reach a much higher position. He said, RU can find a place in the top 20 list by putting a little more effort and filling up the vacant positions in the university. The survey was conducted by collecting the data of 167 universities of the country. The ranks were given on the basis of reputation, quality of academic input, student care, job prospects, faculty, research publication, innovation and governance and admissions. Ranchi University team solves problems at college doorstepLOHARDAGA: Following his University at Your Door programme, a team of officials of different departments of Ranchi University led by vice-chancellor L N Bhagat visited BS College in Lohardaga on Saturday and solved several problems on the spot.The VC provided a cheque of Rs 8.8 lakh to the only constituent college of RU in Lohardaga.
