Workshop for GNIMT facultyA faculty development programme on Achieving Excellence through Proactive Teachers was held at Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GNIMT) here yesterday under the aegis of the ISTE chapter.
Renowned management consultant, Mr G.S. Korey, was the resource person. The programme was attended by all faculty members of the GNIMT. Mr Korey discussed various aspects of teaching. The main emphasis of the workshop was on the role of a teacher in building an institute. He touched all aspects showing how a teacher with his/her proactive approach could take the institute to top. The faculty members performed some group exercises for better understanding and clarity of their role as a teacher.
Workshop for MBAs focuses on positive attitude, skillsISTE students Chapter of Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GNIMT) Gujarkhan Campus organised a two-day personality development workshop for the MBA students. The resource person was Prof. Vikas Arora, a renowned motivator and trainer.
He opened the workshop declaring that there were only two types of personalities — the history creators and the history readers, the people who contribute and the people who consume, the givers and takers.
The percentage of creators, contributors and givers was only 2 per cent and the others was 98 per cent. He asked the students as to which block they would like to belong.
The workshop started with practical tips on personality development. It was followed by a session on communication skills and the later half of the day was dedicated to the techniques and skills of group discussion.
The students were given practical tips about preparing and participation in-group discussion.

The students were guided to perform well by their own assessment and criticism.
On the second day, the emphasis was laid on self-confidence, desire to succeed, passion and enthusiasm. After answering all the queries of the students about the interview techniques, Prof. Vikas Arora guided the students on how to conduct themselves during the interview. The mock interview was also held in which every student participated.
Dr. (Col.) H.S.Singha, Director of the institute, thanked Arora for sparing his valuable time and guiding the students.
The college also bagged overall Trophy at Crescendo-2007 , a two-day inter-college festival held at GGNIMT recently. GNIMTian s have won this trophy consecutively for the fourth time.
The students participated in all the events of cultural, technical, literary and fine arts categories.
Bhangra team that stood first like previous year gave a scintillating performance. Anand Vohra bagged first prize by perfectly enacting Ehsaan Qureshi - the famous comedian-in Mock Press Conference.
Aditya Aggarwal set the floor on fire in Dance to the Tune and won first position. Dr. Singha, Director, GNIMT, congratulated the students for their excellent performances. He expressed satisfaction and appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty in preparing various items.
Lecture on career in entrepreneurshipISTE Chapter of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus in collaboration with the Ludhiana Management Association (LMA) organised a guest lecture on the topic A career in entrepreneurship’ here today. An alumnus of IIMA, Mr Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of naukri.com, jeevansaathi. com and 99 acres.com was the guest speaker.
Mr Sanjeev gave a comprehensive presentation covering all the aspects of entrepreneurship. During his discussion, he revealed the successes and failures and making of naukri.com. Discussing his own journey towards entrepreneurship, he brought forward all the issues related to venturing into a business. One must have a four to five years of work experience before breaking out as an entrepreneur because it will help in exploring better avenues and give insights for all the managerial aspects of a business. One should develop all-round potential to be a successful entrepreneur, he said.
He explained the step-wise procedure of building an entrepreneurial career. He motivated the students to choose entrepreneurship as their career by saying that it can be quite difficult in the formative years of the venture in terms of risk involvement, delayed return on investment, compromising on lifestyle etc but one can have control over one’s life, one can be different, can become a job provider rather than being a job seeker and above all one can experience the satisfaction of achieving the passion.
MBA students of GNIMT, students from PAU, Ludhiana attended the programme. The students had a very interactive session in the end. Lecture on Surya Kriya YogaNSS unit of Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, organised a guest lecture on "Sidhamrit Surya Kriya Yoga" here today. Col. Raghbir Singh Kang, Lt.Col. Harbans Singh and Prof. Baldev Singh were the resource persons.
Col. Kang and Lt-Col Harbans Singh made an elaborate presentation on Sidhamrit Surya Kriya that was a revolutionary practice for achieving a healthy body and healthy mind, gifted to humanity by Paramhans Swami Shri Buddhapuri Maharaj, the chief of the Shabad Surat Sangam Ashram, Malke, Moga.
Prof. Baldev Singh of the Department of Electrical Engineering, GNDEC, is a certified instructor of traditional yoga. He is practising Surya Kriya for the last four years. Taking energy from the Sun, he can stay without food and water for seven days, claimed the Dr H.S.Singha, Director, GNIMT.
Prof Baldev Singh demonstrated the kriya that mainly consisted of sitting facing the sun with closed eyes in such a position that the sun rays fall perpendicularly on the eye lids.
The kriya is to be practised in the morning or evening without having eaten anything two hours prior to kriya and only for a limited time so that the face does not feel the burning sensation. He also elaborated the advantages of clapping and proper method of clapping to get maximum benefit.
GNIMT, PTU champsThe girls of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, have won gold in the volleyball championship of Punjab Technical University held at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Ferozepore last week.
According to a press note issued by Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, GNIMT, 12 teams from various engineering and management institutes of Punjab Technical University (PTU) participated in the two-day meet held on April 5 and 6. The SBS College of Engineering & Technology, Fatehgarh Sahib, and GTBK Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chapianwali, bagged silver and bronze, respectively.
The GNIMT team had also won the bronze in the Badminton Championship organised by the PTU at the Hansraj Badminton stadium, Jalandhar, recently. Dr B R Ambedkar Regional Engineering College, Jalandhar, had emerged champion while the team from Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chapianwali (Malout), finished runner-up.
Ludhiana u-19 probables: The Ludhiana District Cricket Association conducted trials here yesterday to pick up the probables for the Ludhiana u-19 team under the Punjab Cricket Association Coaching Scheme. After the trials 19 players were shortlisted for the coaching camp commencing at the Arya College for Boys ground, Ludhiana, from April 9. These boys have been asked to report to Mr Rakesh Saini at 4 pm. Orientation week endsThe ‘orientation programme towards corporate environment’ that commenced at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, on November 9, 2002, concluded here yesterday.
The orientation week was organised with view to acquaint MBA students with the practical aspects of corporate environment. The orientation exercise comprised seminars by eminent educationists from diverse fields.
On the last day of the programme, a seminar was organised on ‘understanding published financial statements’. Dr Y.P. Sachdeva from PAU was the guest speaker.
He addressed the students and shared fine nuances of preparing financial statements. An understanding of these statements is vital for the aspiring managers as it gives an insight into the financial soundness of a concern. The financial stability of a business reflects its ability to survive and prospects of future growth in the market.
Hence, financial statements provide a true picture of an enterprises’ health and vitality.
The seminar was followed by an interaction of the speaker with the audience.
GNIMT students excelStudents of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology, Gujarkhan campus, are once again in the limelight for their stupendous achievements in academics. Upholding the trend of excellence, five students of the GNIMT ranked among the top-ten positions declared by Punjab Technical University (PTU) for MBA, MCA, BBA. Ms Monika Matta (MCA 2002-05), Ms Vaishali and Ms Parinita (BBA 2002-05) were honoured at the annual convocation of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.
Colonel H.S. Singha, Director GNIMT, congratulated the merit position holders for their excellent achievements. He expressed his hope that the students would continue their zealous efforts and sustain excellence in their performance.
Christmas celebrated: Mom’s Pride School celebrated Christmas with great pomp and show to get aware of the festival. The children came dressed up in black and red and sang Christmas carols. Chocolates and sweets were distributed to them by Santa Claus.
Papers on teleshopping presented: Mr Gautam Bansal and Mr Sandhir Sharma, faculty members from the Department of Business Management, PCTE (Punjab College of Technical Education) presented their research paper at 5th IBIMA (International Business Information Management Association) International Conference held at Cairo, Egypt recently. IBIMA is an association managed by HOFSTRA University, Hampstead, USA comprising various internationally renowned academicians and professionals in the field of management and information technology. Mr Bansal and Mr Sharma presented paper on teleshopping.
The paper presented by both faculty members of PCTE were highly appreciated and both members were invited to chair the sessions in the next IBIMA international conference, to be held at Berlin (Germany) in December 2006.
The PCTE faculty also visited American Cairo University and interacted with their faculty members and delivered lecture to the students of the Business Management Department on strategic management and management information system.
As many as 72 academicians, researchers and professionals from Australia, German, France, USA. UK, Malaysia, Indonesia , Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Italy, etc participated and presented their contributions in the three-day-long conference in Egypt. The conference included tracks on the topics such as supply chain management, e-governance, business process reengineering, knowledge management, enterprise resourcing, SMEs, e-banking and financial industry, database and database management, IT outsourcing, e-business, m-commerce, software development, artificial intelligence, services and quality management, ERP, CRM, outsourcing, data mining, internet, data warehousing, e-learning and many more.
