Information technology plays a vital role in the economics of India as well as world. Today, Information Technology outgrows its parent i.e. Computer Science and Engineering. The immense expansion in networking technologies is expected to continue into the next decade also. IT will bring about a drastic improvement in the quality of life as it impacts application domains and global competitiveness. With the vision of providing technically sound manpower to IT industry, the Department of Information Technology was established in 2007.

The department has grown up steadily keeping pace with the development in the industries and need for qualified graduates to meet the challenging scenarios of the day. The Department has an excellent infrastructure and provides conducive environment for learning. Our understanding is that persons who are clear and thorough about the fundamentals can adapt to rapid changes in technology relatively easily. We want the education imparted to our students to be the basis of a life time of learning. We do not aim to make our students walking manuals of any language or package. Instead, they are given a strong foundation in computer science and problem-solving techniques, and are made adaptable to changes. Faculty members are quite energetic and enthusiastic to engage themselves in research and other academic works. We believe that this approach to teaching-learning, coupled with practical experience gained during Industrial Training in reputed organizations, equips our students to handle the challenges posed by the software industry. The department is determined to provide all possible opportunities to meet the expectation of young ambitious students.

Library
Library is the integral part of every educational institution. It provides the access to the vast world of knowledge. It supplements the class room teaching. It unfolds the new horizon of knowledge. It caters to the need of budding engineers.

The library is not a shrine for the worship of books. It is not a temple where literary incense must be burned or where ones devotion to the bound book is expressed in ritual. A library, to modify the famous metaphor of Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas - a place where history comes to life.

Why Training
In the modern competitive corporate world, when the business houses are expanding their wings over the Global Nest, need arises to produce a quality talent pool which possesses the skill set and the caliber to match the requirements of the employers.

A student graduating with a professional qualification has many expectations in terms of a good job, learning atmosphere, work environment and above all the remuneration. The dream with which he takes up a specific qualification cannot be fulfilled unless and until the student is equipped with the desired skill set which is required in the relevant field. This creates a gap between the academia and the industry. The endeavor thus remains to make the student employable in addition to evolving his skill set.

Keeping in mind this urgent need of industry, Rayat Bahra Group has initiated a Comprehensive Training Program which aims at preparing every student to be the best human resource available. The programmes objective is to make our talent pool ready to be deployed.

Intellectual property rights: Club opened to spread awareness

Chandigarh, April 29 On the eve of the World Intellectual Property Rights Day, an Intellectual Property cum Science and Technology Club was inaugurated at Rayat and Bahra Institute of Engineering and Bio-Technology, Sahauran, on Tuesday.
The club aims to spread awareness among the masses about the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The club has been established in association with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.

Dr S K Salwan, vice-chancellor of the Punjab Technical University, who laid the foundation stone of the club, spoke about the relevance of IPR in the modern days when patenting and copyrighting a product, idea or concept has become an important issue.

Gurharminder Singh, a scientist from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, while highlighting the vital aspects of patenting rules, said that patenting and securing rights over one’s intellectual contribution is a fast catching practice and thus awareness about intellectual rights is a must.

Prof C M Bahl, Managing Director, Rayat and Bahra outlined the aim of the group to institutionalise its reverence for intellectual property by organising a dedicated club.

Sardar Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Vice-Chairman of Rayat and Bahra Group, appreciated the idea of promoting the cause of IPR through a club and encouraged members to foster a spirit of enterprise and innovation by showcasing the great discoveries and inventions in the light of intellectual property.

Professor P K Sharma, coordinator of the club, said that with the world getting smaller thanks to IT and web-enabled services, understanding IPR can be beneficial for industrious, enterprising and innovative professionals.
