SECTION I
PREAMBE:
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Arts and Commerce, Nagasenvana, Aurangabad, maharashtra is run by the People's Education Society, Anand Bhavan, Fort, Mumbai. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar founded the Society on 8th July, 1945 to spread education among the people in general and the under previlagd in particular. The objective of the Society was not only give education in a manner as to promote intellectual, moral and social democracy. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College Of Arts and Commerce was established in jJune 15, 1960 . It is a grant-in aid college affiliated to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. The college is situated in an urban setting in Nagasenvana with a campus area of 40 acres. The university to which it is affiliated has provision to give autonomy to the college. The college was recognized by the University Grnts Commission(UGC) under section 29f0 on 31 August, 1976. The college offers 7 programmes i.e 2 in Undergraduate (UG) , 4 in Postgraduate (PG) and 1 in PG Diploma levels. It has two faculties - Arts and Commerce. The Arts Faculty consists of 11 departments such as English, Hindi, Marathi, Pali, Political Science & Public Administration, Economic, Physical Education, Sociology, Psychology, Library Science and History. The Commerce faculty has Commerce as the only department. The college has 28 permanent teachers and 6 of them are Ph.D and 5 M.Phil. degree holders. There are 1 technical and 12 administrative staff. The total strength of student is 1006 with one overseas student The unit cost of education pr students is Rs.12,675 only. The temporal plan of academic work is annual and semester systems in UG and PG levels. The college has service facilities like central library, computer centre, sports,. Guest house, housing canteen, welfare schemes, grievance redressal cell and vehicle parking shed. . The management of the college rests on the Governing Body of People's Education Society.

The college volunteered to NAAC, Bangalore for assessment and sent its Self Study Report on . NAAC constituted a Peer Tem with Prof. Ananda Deb Mukhopadhyay, Former, Vice-Chancellor of Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal as its Chairperson, Prof. Mamata SathPathy as member Coordinator and Prof. Ravindra Kumar as its Member. The Team after validating the Self Study Report,visiting the infrastructure facilities, going through the office documents and interacting with all the constituents of the college ntends to record the following on the basis of criteria identified by NAAC:

CRITERION WI SE ANALYSIS
CRITERION: I Curricular Aspects:
The college offers various courses at UG and PG levels. Most of he courses offered are career oriented . The students have no flexibility to pursue a programme with reference to time frame, horizontal mobility and non-core options. But they flexibility in elective options. The curriculum followed by the college is designed by the affiliating university taking into consideration the model curriculum of UGC as well as the need of the region and the changes taking place in the field of higher education. The goals of the college is reflected in the curriculum which generate the sense of social concern and social integration. following innovations in teaching -n learning process. The mission of the college can be achieved through this curriculum and participation n extra- and co-curricular activities which help in promoting all round development of students' capability. The college has a good mechanism for obtaining feed back from academic peers and employers on the teaching programme A year's time is required to open a new course in the college. The college has some networking with industries.

CRITERION II: Teaching, Learning and Evaluation:
There is a clear and transparent policy in the college and the students admitted in various courses strictly on the basis of their academic record. The college has provision for assessing students' knowledge and skills for a particular programme. The college also provides bridge/remedial courses to the educationally disadvantaged students. Remedial coaching for SC/ST under UGC support is regularly arranged. In addition the college also arranges extra-coaching for computer education and special coaching for book keeping/statistics of the commerce students. . The college arranges

Spoken English classes for improvement of communicative skills. The advanced learners and talented students are encouraged to work ahead by organizing seminars, tutorials and home assignments, night library facilities and also by arranging learned lectures by experts from industries and professional bodies. The college encourages teaching staff to prepare teaching plan month wise for the whole year. The teaching plan maintains a principle and a possible coordination in the teaching time schedule and examination schedule. The syllabi is unitized according to teaching schedule. The college supplements the lecture schedule with the other learner centered teaching methods such as (i) educational tours, industrial visits, visits to historical places, (ii) group discussions, seminars, personal interviews, (iii) entrepreneurship development camps, and visits to banks and cooperative sector institutions. The college has also a centralized media facility. The college has 220 - 230 working days, out of these 180 are teaching days. The students are communicated about the evaluation methods at the beginning of the session. The college has a well planned mechanism for monitoring the overall performance of the students to ensure the achievements of course objectives through class tests, terminal examinations. It makes the students to read, speak and write on the economic, social, political, industrial problems of the country and the world. The teachers are recruited as per the norms and directions give by the Maharashtra University Act, 1994, UGC norms and Govt.of Maharashtra higher education norms. The college has freedom to appoint and pay temporary/ adhoc teaching staff. Some teachers have attended international, five national and three state level conferences. Five teachers have attended national/state level seminars and three teachers have attended state level workshops. The college follows self-appraisal method to evaluate performance of the faculty in teaching research in extension activities. The college has organized some national seminars and conferences. Twenty-seven teachers have been benefited from faculty improvement programme during the last two years. The principal of the college have been awarded Dolit Sahitya Academy fellowship and associateship of Indian Institute of advanced study, Shimla. The HOD, English have also owned three awards. HOD, Economics got Dronacharya Award for excellent work in the field of education. The HOD, Hindi was awarded Dolit Sahitya Academy Puroshkar. The Institution has a group of committed teachers and their efforts facilitates the effective learning of the teaching learning processes.

CRITERION: III: Research, Consultancy and Extension
Out of twenty-eight permanent teachers eight have obtained Ph.D and five M. Phil degrees. Fourof the teachers are research guides. Some teachers have also registered for Ph.D degree. The college in order to encourage research culture among teachers grant study leave and permit adjustment in teaching schedule. There are five ongoing research projects in the college. The college has a designated person for extension activities. The broad ares of extension activities community development, social work, adult and literacy education, blood donation camp and awareness programmes in health and hygiene and AIDS and environment. The college also conducts extension activities with Government and non-government organizations. The college has established research center to promote research in social sciences and commerce in general and thoughts of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar in particular. To encourage research activities each teacher is advised to publish his research papers. Some teachers are in the advisory committee in the
state planning Board.

CRITERION: IV: Infrastructure and learning processes
The college is located in an urban city with a campus area of 40 acres. Institution has overall infrastructure facilities for running its academic and administrative functioning. The college has infrastructure facility like library, playground, sports equipments, boys and girls hostel, indoor and outdoor games facilities, garden, recreation hall, canteen building, drinking water facilities, laboratory and classrooms. The college has a well framed strategy to ensure the optimum utilization of its infratructural facilirties. The college has a central library, which is interconnected with other libraries of the region for inter library borrowing of books. It has book bank facility. The central library is yet to be computerized. It is yet to develop reprographic facilities also. The total number of books in the library is 75722. It remains open for six days a week from 9:30A.M to 5:30 P.M and 7:30 to 10:30 P.M. There is a central computer facility in the college. The college helps the students with medicines from Students Aids Fund.

CRITERION: V: Students support and progression
The college updates its prospectus regularly. The prospectus focuses on the courses offered students facilities available, admission procedures etc. The updated prospectus is made available to the students at the commencement of the academic session. The drop out rate of students is very high. 60-80% of the graduates pursue higher education. 11 students have preset examination. The result of the university examination is very good. There is a good mechanism to collect feedback from students. The college has provision for giving financial aids to students from state and central govt grants and other sources. In order to give encouragement to students for their academic performance teachers of the college have instituted prizes. The college has a employment cell. The teachers of the college participate in personal counseling of students. The employment cell motivates the students to opt for self-employment. The college has an alumni association. There are good support services to students with central library, sports and games facilities, hostels, boys and girls common room, nature and debate clubs. The college provides recreational and leisure time facilities to students through cultural programme, indoor and outdoor games, dance and music competitions. The college provides books and medicines to poor students from Students Aids Fund.

CRITERION: VI: Organisations and managements
The college is governed by a management committee. There is one self assessment/ evaluation committee to take account of various classes, academic and cultural activities. On the whole the college has a transparent mechanism to check the work efficiency of non teaching staff. There is a special committee for preparing academic calender well in advance along with information with class/unit tests, various competitive programmes. The college offers a bunch of welfare programmes for all its constituents. The college has an internal audit mechanism. There is a grievance cell.

CRITERION: VII: Healthy practices
The college encourages the students to emulate social and moral philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar and Constitution of India. The college has a good mechanism for internal quality check. The college is sensitized to latest managerial concept. The college has linkage programme with research institutes and industries. It imparts value-based education by organizing various outreach programmes. The college inculcates civic responsibilities among students. The college takes serious efforts for all-round personality development of learners.

The Peer Teem after validating the report, visiting the infrastructure facilities , going through the office documents and interacting at depth with the GB members, Principal. Teaching and non teaching staff, employees, students, alumni, parents and guardian intends to make the following observations.

The college may run some new courses in innovative / emerging / vocational areas.

The college has run computer literacy programme for its teaching and non teaching staff.

The college takes serious initiatives for developing communicative skills in English among students.

The college takes special interest for helping with reports students with books and medicines.

The college may have a functional research committee to monitor and encourage research activities.

The teachers may be motivated to procure minor and major research projects from
UGC and other funding agencies.
