NRI quota admissions cancelled

IN TWO major decisions, the Judges Committee for Monitoring of Admissions in Private Professional Institutes on Tuesday cancelled ten admissions to private dental and medical colleges made in the State this academic session under the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota. The committee had voluntarily examined all the admissions under the NRI quota. All students under the quota had been asked to prove their eligibility and ten out of the 17 students admitted were found ineligible for the NRI quota. Eight of these students are of R D Gardi Medical College, Ujjain, and two of Modern Dental College, Indore. The Judges Committee also directed five private medical and dental colleges to admit six students in the 2007-08 as these students had been wrongly denied admissions during the current session by the colleges. The decision of the Judges Committee, headed by Justice Chandresh Bhushan, came on the basis of students complaints of irregularities on private MBBS, BDS seats.

Though the member secretary – the principal secretary of Medical Education Department MM Upadhyaya and another member Dr Balraj Chouhan were not present. Three members, including the chairman, present on the occasion were unanimous in the order. The committee ordered admissions of the following students by the colleges concerned during next academic session (2007-08). The unreserved seat quota in these colleges will stand suitably altered during the next session. Justice Chandresh Bhushan told the Hindustan Times the decision of relief to the students was taken on the merit of the complaints.

The private colleges have been directed to admit the following students – Ruchi Goyal and Sandip Nigam for MBBS at Peoples Medical College, Bhopal; Achal Sharma for MBBS at Sri Aurobindo Medical College, Indore; Chandrakant Dubey for R D Gardi Medical College, Ujjain; Apoorva Purohit for Rau Dental College, Indore and Kamlesh Alawa for BDS at Aurobindo College of Dentistry, Indore.A petition regarding complaints of irregularities in private MBBS, BDS seats was filed at the MP High Court and this case was attached to the DMAT-2006 case in the Supreme Court by the State Government. The SC had then directed the HC to hear these complaints and the HC, in turn had handed over the cases to the Judges Committee.
