Allegedly fed up with material life, a first year M.Tech student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, committed suicide by jumping from his 9th floor hostel building at NIT campus on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Ankur Bharadwaj, 26, a student of M.Tech Structural Engineering in NITs Civil Engineering department and a resident of A11, East Nathu Colony, Delhi.

Bharadwaj died instantaneously soon after he jumped from the 9th floor of the citys tallest Ultra Mega hostel building on the campus at around 2.30 pm.

Sources said Bharadwaj was a bright student and had recently joined the sought after M.Tech Structural Engineering course at NIT Warangal three months ago after completing his B.Tech from Delhi College of Engineering. The deceased reportedly had few friends on campus and living in an independent room on second floor of the building.

He was said to be deeply into spiritual and devotional activities besides being brilliant in studies.

According to Prof. G Radhakrishnamachary, dean, student affairs at NIT Warangal, the Bharadwajs diary entries had subjects like mystery of death and life after death. He regularly read the Bhagwadgita, the Upanishads, used to get up early at 4 am to perform yogas and was writing Ramakoti (writing Lord Ramas name a crore times), he said, while ruling out ragging as normally there are no such incidents among M.Tech students.

Interestingly, the Kazipet police are also buying this story and have registered a case under Section 174 CrPc.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr D. Venkatnarsaiah, DSP Kazipet, who visited the hostel room of the deceased, said that he had stocked up many books on spirituality including those dealing with subjects like Victory over death.

Bharadwaj wanted to leave his course and return to Delhi. One hour before the incident, he spoke to this mother and sister in Delhi and expressed his desire to meet with God, said Mr Venkatnarsaiah, while terming the case as confusing.
