The commendations as well as the issues of concern are given in the following pages.
SECTION - II
Criterion I - Curricular Aspects:
The college is affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot. As such the college follows the syllabi prescribed by that University. The College runs two graduate programmes viz. B.A and B.Com degree courses. In B.A the subjects offered are Gujarati, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, English, Hindi and Information Technology. To introduce a new programme within the regulations of the present system, the college takes about six to twelve months. The dropout rate is 4.7%.
Criterion II - Teaching, Learning and Evaluation :
Students are admitted through the combination of academic performances as per the regulations of Saurashtra University and the Govt. of Gujarat
The college runs remedial courses for weaker students. Advanced learners are identified and guidance is provided to them. The teachers prepare a teaching plan for the year. The college has started providing audio visual aids for use in the classroom by the teachers. The College has 12 permanent teachers out of whom two are Ph.D. degree holders. The teachers are recruited as per the policy of the State Government, UGC and the University. The College has the freedom to appointment temporary staff with the prior permission and guidelines laid down by the Gujarat Government. Many teachers have attended national level seminars and presented research papers.
Two teachers in English have published 12 books in English or Gujarati. Another teacher in Gujarati has published one book.
The college has a system of evaluation of teachers by students. It regularly evaluates students' performance by conducting unit tests. A suggestion box is maintained in the campus and the students use it to suggest the administration their needs. An average pass percentage of around 80% is maintained by the college.
Criterion III - Research, Consultancy & Extension
With two of the permanent teachers having Ph.D degrees, there exists a research potential in this college. A few teachers have published papers in some of the leading journals. Consultancy is practiced in the form of counseling the students. N.C.C. students do the regular service work as per the NCC norms. NSS is not functioning in the college at present.

There is a separate prayer hall for the purpose of conducting any group activity in the college. An audio visual room is available in the college. The building is well maintained by the management with the assistance of non-teaching staff. The college has a separate Library building. There is a separate Library Advisory Committee, which prepares the budget and allocates it among departments. There are 23,561 books in the library and the college subscribes to about 15 journals & periodicals. Playground facilities are available for cricket, Volley ball, Kabadi, kho-kho and indoor games like table tennis and chess. Two students have represented the college at the state level competitions and one at national level and one student participated at the university level in lawn tennis. SECTION - III
Overall Analysis and Concluding Remarks:
The college functions in a rural area. Cultural activities are encouraged. There are no differences of caste and creed. There is a healthy environment for girls and boys. The students are very active and disciplined in all aspects.
Suggestions and recommendations:
There are a few areas where action needs to be taken. We have the following recommendations to make:
The library needs an introduction of open access system and computerization.
The Computer Centre needs to be urgently strengthened and developed. All teachers need to become familiar with computers and the students should also be encouraged to do so through a self-financing course.
Language skills/ communication in English and Hindi, have to be greatly improved among teachers and students. For one thing, this will enhance their self esteem besides helping them not to feel too insulated with knowledge of only Gujarati. They can also access information through the Internet more easily than now with a working knowledge of both English and the Computer operations
A full fledged English language laboratory may be developed on top priority in order to develop the communication skill of the students. This faculty may even be common to the two colleges run by the Mandal.
Post graduate courses should be started in select subjects by fixing a priority sequence. e.g. MBA and M.Com courses.
Computerization of administration, accounts and library stock / issue records is desirable.
A gymnasium may be built for the benefit of the students, seeking funds from appropriate agencies like HRD Ministry and UGC.
The faculty members are to be encouraged and impressed upon to pursue Ph.D. level work with suitable incentives. They should also take up minor and major research projects and book writing work.
The following facilities in the college are highly desirable:
a) A health center
b) A canteen
c) College bus
d) Sports complex with indoor and outdoor games facility.
e) Counseling and career guidance unit including training for Competitive examinations.
f) NCC wing for women students.
g) Display of new arrivals in the library and extended library hours.
The vast plot of land for the college should have a secure compound wall, possibly built in phases. Greenery and extra curricular activities / sports, games etc. should be well organised and developed.
Class rooms should have teaching aids like OHP and teachers should be impressed upon to use the same effectively.
The NSS activity discontinued for the past two years should be revived early in view of its basic importance and value for the students, particularly in the light of Gandhian values.
The College may initiate the process of filling up the vacant teaching positions immediately with the Government and the University.
The Peer Team thanks the Principal, the management and all the members of teaching and non-teaching staff, past and present students and parents for the co-operation extended to the Team during the visit.
